Of Art and Encouragement
'Round these parts, a 3-week March Break for our kids was going to be a trial the likes had never been seen. Around week 2, people started taking to the drive way with their kids to get some socially-distanced fresh air and add some flare to the concrete.
Watching grandparents pause on their walks to enjoy the colour and youthful expression was pretty sweet. Perhaps a nice treat to tide them over until a time they could enjoy their own grand kids.
Names and shapes were on every 4th driveway.
It seems like eons since the last time I have seen hop-scotch.
My little one thought it would be best to simply colour our house while we played basketball for the first time in a long while.
After a while, the adults got into it as well. Inspired by the creative children and front line workers in healthcare, retail and all other "Essential Services" as deemed by provincial governments.
The pieces became quite intricate and well done as artists got back to the basics and poured their creativity into tributes to health care workers.
Illustrations became sculptures.
Windows evolved into message boards.
Doors did double duty as billboards.
Even the weary health care workers were motivated to get in on the community conversation.
It seemed everyone had a way of having their voices heard in seclusion and silence.
The creative curve would not be flattened as real estate agents became fine artists.
Then the inspiration spread like a wonderful virus and collaborations happened.
It has taken on national momentum as we scratch our chins at the protests in other parts of the world not so far away.
Rain cannot diminish its vibrancy.
Not even an annoying Mid-April snow squall.
Amidst all of this, kids are still learning. Wounds are healing. People are still having their birthdays and simply finding other ways to gather and celebrate.
I hope you are seeing the best side of people where you are. I hope you are sharing the breather the earth seems to be having with all of us driving less, living more. Strangely enough, there are things I am going to miss about this period. There are things I will cherish and changes I will stick with.
Nice work!!
Haha thanks my man. How you been?
Been good staying home with family waiting for this virus to pass!!
Good times roll !!
