PowerHouseCreatives Contest - A Movie Review:Warcraft: The Beginning

Here we are again with another fun task set forth by @zord189. This week's contest is a movie review with the movie not being more than 5 years old. (Suggested range 2013-2018). Quite honestly, I am bad with when movies came out. I don't remember when, I just know I saw it and if I liked it or not. So for this, I picked a year (2016) and a letter (W). The first movie I came up with was Warcraft: The Beginning Good thing I saw it or I would have spent way too much time analyzing an entry.

For the specifics. Warcraft was directed by Duncan Jones This was his second film. Little bit of trivia: Duncan Jones' father is David Bowie.

The movie stars:
Travis Fimmel as Anduin Lothar
Paula Patton as Garona
Dominic Cooper as King Wrynn
Clancy Brown as Blackhand

The movie is based off of Blizzard Entertainment's Warcraft game. Not specifically World of Warcraft, but the lore behind the Warcraft franchise. The movie takes place as the orc race is being driven from their home on Draenor due to it being destroyed. An orc shaman, Gul'dan uses dark magic to open a portal to the human world of Azeroth for the orcs to escape their dying world.

That is basic plot. World dying, need a new home. New place doesn't want you there. This movie was critically panned. I read several reviews from all over the world and none of them were kind. It was highly criticized by the Warcraft community as well. If there is one thing I have learned over the years is not to get in between a nerd and his lore. With that being said. This movie falls in the not great but not bad category for me. Could there have been improvement? Most definitely. Was it entertaining? I thought so. Do you have to know about Warcraft? Not at all. This movie is truly the beginning. The create of what is now know as the Horde and the Alliance. If anything it gives one a bit more of understanding of that genre. If you like fantasy in general, I don't think you could go wrong with this movie.

Considering the world created needed to meet certain expectation it was well done. It truly did take you out of the game and brought to life. I think the creation of the characters was well done. The orcs look as they should. Truly the only way to judge this is to see for yourself.

What I really like about the movie is how each story line is presented and the viewer can see the different aspects which come into play. Some feel this is a good v. evil storyline. Depends on what you see as good or what you see as evil.
I admit it has been a bit of time since I have seen this and I am going from memory and impressions left on me from my viewing experience.
