Portrait of Pepper .. Electrified!

(Edited)

I Painted A Portrait Of Pepper ..

About a year ago (See Below For An Excerpt of The Post or visit the link above). Recently I was shuffling through some paintings, and you may have caught that post. I was feeling a little overwhelmed by the amount of pieces starting to pile up. I was debating on what the best way was for me to part with some of them, and I have since calmed down a little. I will be listing them again on Facebook and Etsy as well as trying to market myself on those platforms a bit more. That thought aside, I did run across Peppers portrait (which I will not be parting with). I wanted to play with it by tweaking it through a digital program I have been messing with lately. One of the results was electrifying!

He's Electric !! ..

Well maybe not quite electric, but the photo of his portrait looks as if there is an electric current running all through it. To me it looks like little electrical currents pulsating along the defined lines of the painting. The blue color adds to the effect in my opinion. I like the sparks of energy popping off of the painting like lightning. There are also hints of circuitry here and there. His left eye seems to take on a robotic presence as the bluish green light encircles his pupil. Pepper the Terminator Dog!!

I created one with a tint of purple, but didn't care for it as much.

Nothing beats the original work. I am still partial to original creations, but enjoy the fun of playing around with these works long after I've created them.

An Excerpt From The Original Post ..

A Portrait Of Pepper

Mr Pepper ..

Little Mr Pepper, a black and white Shih Tzu, Came to us from Lancaster Pennsylvania. We picked him up as a puppy from a small local shop. He immediately came to us and we knew he was going to be a part of our little family. That was almost 13 years ago.. Where does the time go? We have had many good times together and hope for many more before his bones are too tired to move. He is our little shadow, our whiner, our curious one, our guard puppy, and our snuggle buddy. He is truly a perfect dog for our family. Not to mention that he is a true Big Brother to little Miss Molly. She is lost without him, constantly looking to him for reassurance and guidance. I feel really good about seeing this portrait through from my mind to completion. It was something I wanted to create for a while.. Feeling very happy today :-)

About Me ~ The Artist

My art work incorporates a wide variety of subject matter, including landscape, seascape, cityscape, and still life images. My works are the product of a continuing process of exploration through which I seek to portray personal and visionary interpretations of my surroundings. My paintings are impressions of places and events from everyday life, an interpretation of my imagination, and personal responses to what I see and feel on a daily basis. More recently I have invested generous amounts of time into my landscape painting. I am surrounded by natural and man made beauty, which inherently presents itself in the tri-state area, and almost demands that I paint it.

Not everything is art. Art is not everything, but it comes close. Art is everywhere and all the time. Art makes you experience the beauty of the world, the people in it, and the places we call home. Art itself is so influential that it can tell stories, show feelings, and express passion or fury. Art exists in addition to language; expression of sensations and thoughts, revealing a way of thinking too subtle and delicate for words.

For me art requires love, honesty and perseverance. In return, it reveals some personal, non-analyzable, and creative untamed passion. For the public, art with its magnificent beauty, improves mood and health and builds better human beings and communities. It engages the intellect, softens the heart, strengthens the soul and frees the spirit.

I marvel at folks who can draw! He's a sweetie too. Do they really never judge? I once had a dog would could tell a bad person from a mile away. Other than that, she loved everyone.

Dogs - gotta love 'em. Your drawing is great, and I like the effects that really do look like electric currents. I agree with you on the blue one. Wishing many more birthdays for Mr. Pepper!

Expressive warm eyes cushioned between soft cuddly ears, a distinguished look you captured him beautifully.

Electrifying look brings about a different feel, not quite as warm as the original works.

Totally agree with you on that one. He looks mad.. haha. Probably because he was waiting on me to take him for a walk. haha. He truly is a warm cuddle bug kind of pup. His sister is more of the independent type. Thank you for the support and for the tip @joanstewart!!

Really good sketching @bdmillergallery, after high school for many years, I would occasionally sketch things (I always preferred pencil (B&W) to color, but I dabbled in oil pastels as well.
My music overcame my artistic expression. Life intervened as well, and all my past, accumulated sketches were destroyed by a careless and spiteful landlord.

Did you use some electronic means to create the other images from the B&W image? They seem to be like "Deep Dream AI" images.
This is one of me that was run through that AI

Yup.. Deep Dream Generator. It's fun to use every so often.. takes a little while, but I am always surprised at what it spits out. I tweak it after that through photoshop.

Your old landlord is a jerk! haha.. Seriously though, sad that he decided that that was necessary. Very childish way of handling things. Life gets in the way of anything fun it seems. I always find time for work.. but then again, it pays the bills. hehe. Thanks for stopping by today and leaving this awesome comment! I appreciate the genuine support :-)

I was 'working' as the maintenance man for a slum lord at his trailer park,
my addictions made it so I couldn't keep up with his rent, so he evicted me.
I couldn't get out fast enough for him, so he turned some of the other
Residents of the trailer park loose in my stuff, some they took
For themselves, some were simply tossed into the garbage
Dumpster. By the time I could get what I had salvaged
Into a new location, that dumpster had been emptied
And all my dozen or so sketches I'd saved all
Those years were gone. This is a photo of
My last self portrait.

Oh Wow.. This is a terrible story that I am sure happens to many more people than it should. I suppose that it would be of no comfort and also it is easy for me to say, that at least you have the memories of those things dear to you. He can't and didn't take away those memories nor your gift to create visual art. He can't take back what he did to you and I hope he has changed to a better person. It's harder to give help than to ignore someone in need. He was focused on greed rather than looking for a way to get you the help you needed.. regardless of whether you wanted it or not at that point. Some people require a bit of tough love, but it's not right to kick someone when they are down. I am sorry that addiction and this event happened to you.. for what it is worth to you, I am sorry.

You've got some real talent there, unlike me who is still learning. You really payed attention to the angle of the light and tonal values. Nice Portrait!!

There is something about this breed of dog. They are one of the best companion dogs there is, usually, a one-person dog is what I thought I remember, but, I may be remembering it wrong.

My sister has one and it was because she was allergic to dogs and cats (their dander) that I turned her towards this breed. Shih Tzu is among the few breeds whose coat is made up of hair (like people) instead of fur. One of the best reasons when you have allergies.

Your portrait of her if fabulous and through the light and the shading depicts a wonderful rendition of your beloved pup.

Thanks for sharing this with us and I meant to run over here yesterday when I heard someone talking about it! Well, here I am now!

Have a great day!!

Awe Thanks @dswigle :-) For all of the above reasons, this is why we chose this breed. They are very docile and good with children and people. Pepper (our little guy in that picture) can be a bit protective from time to time around strangers, but it doesn't take long for him to warm up to you.

Molly, our female, is a petite lovable soul who you may never know is in the house. She is quiet and all about self preservation.. will run and hide at the first signs of noise. Unfortunately Molly has Addison's Disease and severe allergies (highly allergic to human dander.. go figure). She is always getting a shot by me for one of these things. Poor girl takes them well though. She, and Pepper, get cheese for her efforts and bravery :-)

I wouldn't call them a one person dog.. if anything they are recommended for families. The close relative, the Lhasa Apso, is more of a one person kind of breed. We had one, Patches, she was my wife's dog. She didn't care much to be handled by me but did tolerate my presence. haha.

People are talking about me on discord.. Gooing there now to make sure it's all good things :-P

Have a GREAT day too!! Thanks for the tip!!!!!!!!!

Our little Troy is 14 years old (75years in human years according to his Vet) and we have that habit of listening to his bark when strangers come to visit. He can definitely tell good people from bad ones.
Your drawings are excellent my friend and Pepper looks like a happy little guy!
Blessings!

Hi. Lovely pictures of your pet. I like the black and white version only. Don't really care for colors that change the way the animal looks. Only if the animal is a specific color(s). You are very talented. Good luck to you in the future.

Hi @justclickdiva! Thank you for the honesty. Yeah.. I'm on the fence about the colored alteration. I am definitely all about black and white.. just waiting for everyone eles to catch on to the monochrome madness!
