Emotion in the eyes

Loy Krathong is about paying respects to the spirits of the rivers and thank the water god for the rain and the sustenance that it brings. There is also a more personal reason behind it as well. As people release their lanterns into the water, they make a wish and release all negative thoughts and past mistakes and look to a positive future.

While my wife and I were in Pattaya, we unknowingly booked our stay on a strip of the gay beach. We got there the night of Loy Krathong and there were men together along the beach releasing floating lanterns into the water and the sky lanterns up into the sky.

They were happy to be together and that they had a place they could celebrate, but this man here, you could see in his eyes, that as he was about to release his lantern into the ocean, he appeared to be reflecting on the past and really trying to take in the true meaning of Loy Krathong. I wonder what kind of trials he had to endure during his life as he was growing up in a time that did not accept him for who he was. I just hope that he was able to find inner peace as he released that negativity with his lantern and he is able to look towards his future.
