Narcissa (Original Poetry)

"Narcissa come kiss us"
the horrid horde flattered
she knelt beside a puddle
unaware of the hazard

she glimpsed her reflection
in her eyes were wings
the fluttering flock obliterated
the notion of feminine sin

The depth of her fall
agitated the strays
ignorant and ignored
they demanded her gaze

Mesmerized by her own image
She splashed in the puddle
Eyes locked- a still ocean
she yielded no rebuttal

They pushed her into the water
held her down
her struggle payment
until she'd drown

But the end of all things has drawn near. Therefore be sober-minded and be sober unto prayers.(1 Peter 4:7)

Question from the Bible, Is there such a thing as untimely death in the Bible?

Ah, @sunravelme

The theme of narcissus is an ancient one, and you made an excellent balled based on that classical theme:

narcissus.jpg

But beyond the classical themes, expertly contrasted with the modern, this poem reminded me of so much on a personal level!

she glimpsed her reflection
in her eyes were wings
the fluttering flock obliterated
the notion of feminine sin

I'm completely interpreting this poem to my personal experience.

One of my closest friends in university was a lap-dancer, and funded her way through uni stripping, and when we were drunk together she admitted that she felt like her dancer personality was a mirror of her true self. Essentially, she told me that there were two personalities, Hannah and Stella (her stripper name).

I knew that woman intimately, she was a beautiful, wonderful writer, an intelligent woman to an intimating level, a yogi and one of the kindest souls I've ever met... unless she was in stripper mode... when she was ruthless, targeting the richest idiotic business men to rinse them for all she could get.

I don't know why your poem reminded me of her! It probably has nothing to do with the story I've told other than the imagery of the soul reflected in the mirror.

How many roles do we take on daily? Living inside a mirror of who we truly are, only showing those we love and trust the picture beyond the reflection.

Thanks for responding to the prompt. Long term poets like you Sun, are some of the people I want to encourage back to posting creative writing on steem! Hopefully at The Inkwell ;-)

If we survive Justin Sun and all his Bullshit, I hope you'll join us in making The Ink Well your home!

Much love and respect,
