A cage of happiness

When I struggle
With the cage
I lose my feathers
But, these days,
I know better.
I don't hurt myself
I don't keep myself
On tenterhooks.

A free born
By nature
Still in transports of joy,
I roost merrily
Inside my cage
On restful little bars
Of my guest room.
I eat and sleep
I sleep and wake
I wake and sing
I sing, when l like.

A bird minder
Must mend fences
With his captives.
So, rubbing sleep
From his eyes,
My captor keeps vigil
On my behalf.
He watches the weather
He brings my food
He fetches the water
He does his stuff
And picks my droppings.
To ensure my safety
( I presume )
He saps his might
To bolt his cage
Outside my gate.

Pitiable Porter! I smile.
He has lost his freedom,
Bound
By barbarous ways.
