Apple are burning the planet to avoid using my "under development" software.

In today's @podnews newsletter and podcast, James Cridland reports about Apple now claiming to have fixed a problem that many people have been reporting for months. The Apple Podcast app (one of the most used podcast clients in the world) has been terribly slow to report new episodes for months. I've noticed it even though I barely use the app I still have it installed to spot issues like this.

Through back channels, we have heard that the reason Apple aren't using the @podping service which has been working perfectly for more than 6 months is that they consider it "under development".

But it now appears that Apple have updated their Podcasts Connect site (which was broken for me for 3 months earlier this year) to add back a button so Podcasters can force Apple to update their podcast more quickly. You could say that the Podcasts Connect services is "under development" I guess.

However, that's not how Apple have fixed their slow update problem, the real answer is they're checking RSS feeds with dizzying frequency as James writes:

On Friday, the Apple Podcasts Connect system was checking @podnews's RSS feed every eight minutes.

But more than that, James's site reports the ridiculous frequency with which his RSS feed is checked by some services. All of this useless computer activity could be massively reduced by wider adoption of @podping and Apple could drive that immediately.

To that end, Dave Jones has written an excellent article about Podping (and I'm hoping he'll publish it on Hive soon).

In the end, getting an entire industry to adopt a brand new protocol built on a blockchain technology was never going to be easy. We've come a long way already and I'm still pleased with the progress. And I think when the Live notification system starts coming in the next couple of months, a lot more people will be paying more attention.

One more thing: Apple TV+

I tried to get Apple TV+ working on my Samsung TV today. I'm pretty sure my model of TV didn't have an Apple TV+ app last time I looked but I noticed one there today.

So I installed it and tried to set it up. No matter what I did the sign up screen with a QR code or a 4 letter code either never appeared or flashed and disappeared. After resetting my whole TV (which of course means signing in to Netflix and other services again) it still didn't work.

I phoned Apple, went through a bunch of useless steps until eventually the Apple person said there was a note that others had reported this problem and the engineering team had been notified.

So all of this was a waste of time, their TV app for my TV is clearly broken. I guess one could say that it is still "under development".

so their solution was "add more power"?

apple hates polar bears and wants Tuvalu to disappear (probably because of theirs .tv domain)

You should seriously Look into that "Trust" thing very closely.

Personaly i dont have a problem with Downvotes... Just that fact that so much of it goes on based on that "Trust" thing, you should look into that.

It's really annoying when the app is slow. Although I have never run this app. Hopefully Apple will solve their problems anyway. Just like you got in trouble for releasing TV apps. Maybe someone could say that it's under development.

😂Nice one. A refresh button is certainly better than the podping app. Definitely.
💪🏻 Don‘t give up on it. Best things in life are often the hardest ones to achieve. And getting one of the biggest company on earth adopt an app of the still quite unknown Hive blockchain is probably a tough challenge.

We choose to go to the Moon in this decade and do the other things not because they are easy but because they are hard 😎
