Allison stands on stilts and juggles. Brendan sings Dido’s “Thank You”. Allison has a sunflower tucked into a stilt. Brendan wears a crown of yellow roses.
Allison: I have my parents to thank for making sure my life was full of books and learning and love. I had trails to wander. I had support and safety and social skills. We had teasing and sincerity and large meals. When the leaves changed, we wandered the woods and I saw our names written in the leaves. I found fairy caverns and I learned to spell faerie with an ae when I want to believe they were real. Our church was a church of love. One day, as I wandered a lonely graveyard at midnight, fighting sleep, followed by my boldly loyal friends, I felt the insanity of sleep deprivation hover within my feet. I stole my keys from their keeper and fled my friends. We pounded the asphalt, my feet and I. A dumpster in an alleyway called me with stench of sweet rot. I found a host of sadly shriveled potted plants. I rescued them, filling my arms awkwardly. Home again, they lined my dorm. Some died, but most flourished. Basil for everyone. Try not to die on the cliffs of dover.
Allison tosses the juggling balls to Brendan, climbs off the stilts, and finishes the song with him while he straps the stilts on, climbs up with her help, and begins juggling.
Brendan: The white cliffs of Dover led me back home to North Carolina. I hefted the many bags of catfood from costco to cart to car to domicile.
Lights fade as Brendan begins and Allison’s song finishes.
