”Blackbirds tend to link shiny things.” ~ The Bloody Raven

In a previous log entry, 1977 Bahamas Silver Jubilee I’ve mentioned acquiring, the third mystery coin that were priced beyond belief and not by mere fancy. ☠

Exercising my preferred style of attack and strategy; I fired my only broadside of fiat, cash deposits recovered from 780 beverage containers, for this 100 Colones and the 1977 Bahamas since they were 0.925 Sterling. Now low on ‘Powder’ I then flashed the cold steel of my credit card for the 0.999 FS One Tael Dragon for no Tax was charged on 0.999 Bullion!

The Silver Coin!

The sun was going down when the smoke cleared, and in the aftermath of this fierce financial exchange I knew I paid the premium price for the Bermuda Ship, still well below the secondary market value and a fine addition to my fleet.

The One Tael Dragon was also a rare beauty with her value surpassing well above it’s price. Yet clues to her origins still shrouded in mystery with the latest intelligence revealing a blue blooded conspiracy with the Sunshine Mint! 😯

Then this Silver 100 Colones, was the real bargain when I discovered having paid $5 CAD (five) below melt value of this coin that contained 32.3g, 1.04 troy oz. of Silver! A tactical pricing error committed by my Vendor and Nemesis or a cunning trap?

A few days later, I sailed back to the scene of my previous battle, reloaded and ready. He was different Vendor Captain yet crafty and wiser than the previous one. In referring to the Canonic tomb of Krause Publications and his due diligence the coin was revealed to be grossly undervalued to that on the price tag. The jig was up!

This wouldn't be my #piratesunday post without a ship or anything piratey do ye?

According to the law of commerce, the price tag constituted a legal “Offer and Acceptance” and he surrendered the price tagged coin to me at the original $5 below melt value, then proceeded to price the tag $7 higher on the remaining coins.

As I shove off with two of these coins, I felt a wee bit of remorse for his professional conduct, diligence and honorable a foe, so I purchased $1 face value of silver dimes. ☠ and wished him and his kin a Merry Christmas.

So there it be, me latest adventure of pirate plunder for #piratesunday. ☠

The coat of arms represents: three volcanoes (one for each of the three mountain ranges in the country) and an extensive valley between two oceans (Pacific Ocean and Caribbean Sea) with a merchant ship in each one (representing the maritime history of the country). Two years ago my son had been on a School backed Missions trip to Costa Rica, he had a blast and at the same time came to grips with a totally different culture and standard of living the people he came to help and minister to. Not only that he came away having experienced the beauty of this lush Central American country but also understands much more intimately the culture and the economic/political challenges that the people of Costa Rica face.

It is my first look at that beautiful coin. Wonderful find, sis @kerrislravenhill! And lovely banknotes. It is always great for young kids to travel and see other places. They tend to be more appreciative of what they have at home.
Enjoy the rest of 2019, sis. Take care 🥰🌺🤙 and a million Hugs and Kisses 🤗💕💋!

Glad you were first to comment Sis, the teaching trip to Costa Rica cost me a big chunk of cash but it was promised to be a life changer, my Son was almost a different person coming home, he realizes that he is blessed.
Getting these coins was an amazing great find, "Cheap, cheap, cheap!" Lol!
I was paying $13.00 USD per oz for the 2.08 oz in these coins.
Mega hugs and kisses Sis! 🌻💝🤗💞🌺

If the Vendor didn't check the Krause I may have pulled out the credit card and bought all the remaining stack of ten coins at $18 CAD/$13 USD per 1.04 oz AWG. A No brainer! Still walking away with a pair of them was still a fine Pirate plunder! ☠

I think that's the right attitude, two is definitely better than none at that price.

In the beginnings since the Spanish empire before it was even Costa Rica, it was largely dependent on an Agrarian economy and relatively poor compared to other regions, it's finally economically diversified in the last few decades. But it's still poor on a per capita basis. Plenty of economic challenges yet.
The wildlife is also amazingly diverse.
And Costa Rica didn't have to fight ⚔ against Spain for independence, all they did was just declared it.
Oops, gone off course...lol! ☠

Having a copy of the Krause Coin Catalog is one of those two edged sword analogies.
The more I see, the more I want. There are so many I'd love to get!
I came across this coin totally by chance.
Thank you for commenting @ronaldoavelino 👍

The two sides of tha coin seem entirely unrelated in look, but unlike them both! Of course I was drawn to the chicks because cute animals on a coin, then you flipped that baby over and showed the cool crest with the ship at center.

🏆 <- for a cool coin.

Good point @dfinney,
I can totally understand the appeal of Baby Animals on coins; chicks, puppies, kittens, and perhaps to some extent baby vampire bats? are huge draws on YouTube, and on many Social platforms, and in marketing a big selling feature of a variety of products including coins. "Cuteness" sells.
You know me, cute animals are ...cute , but I was sold on the little ship on the crest, the fact that I will pass this on to my Son who have been to Costa Rica, and the way below spot price made this coin a MUST BUY!
So the Chicks were a nice added bonus.
