Newbury Town Hall - Beautiful Britain

I spent a lovely year in the town of Newbury in Berkshire, England. It's a beautiful market town in the south (though this was the furthest north I lived until I moved to Wales!)

This was taken on a brief return to the town in 2007. I tried to capture a few sights that were everyday to me during that year... such as the Newbury Town Hall.

This beautiful building was built in 1881 as the Town Hall. It was extended in 1910, though I'm not sure in which direction that would be. (Streetview is limited there too, so I can't even take another look right now.)

There are other pictures of the Town Hall and huge amounts of information about Newbury in general on their website Newbury History.

Below is another angle of the clock tower of the Town Hall, as seen from across the Kennet & Avon Canal which divides the town in two. The Italian restaurant below really has an awesome place along the waterfront - which includes several landing spots if you want to visit via your canal boat.

Yes, there are many places with older buildings in the UK. Even Newbury got hit in WWII, but thankfully, many old buildings including the medieval guildhall survived.
