Another view of Republic, Washington - Wistful Washington
Republic is a small town (about 1000 people) in Ferry County, NE Washington. I lived there for almost a year 2015-2016. It's a beautiful, but semi-arid area that I quickly grew to love.
The town has everything you need including Anderson's grocery store, Mom & Pop's Discount grocery (I loved that store), hardware stores, a feed store, thrift stores, a library, a couple of motels, a laundromat. Of course, it also has a park, a couple of museums, a few churches and a school. There are even a couple of annual festivals - one for the winter and one for the summer. If you need more shopping, then Colville is about an hour and a half to the east. (Even Grand Forks in Canada is about an hour to the north.) But for most day-to-day living, Republic has everything one needs.
Apparently, Republic began its life as a gold mining settlement. They originally wanted to call it Eureka after the creek where the gold was found. The name was rejected because of naming conflict - not with Eureka, California, but with one in Clark County, Washington (which I've never heard of, despite living there for three years!)
Here are some of the pictures I took there when I visited back in August.
Read more about Republic, Washington on Wikipedia and on the city site.
