Now for something different
Most of my city shots I go out of the way to not have people in the shots, I just feel funny taking shots of people and I am not sure why but that is something I am trying to work on, so for this post, I am going to do a post of shots on the streets of NYC all with people clearly in view, or for a couple of them the main subject of the post
Starting with this shot of a few people skating on the Ice Rink in Bryant Park, generally when I pass by it is in the early morning before it opens, but I decided to walk up there after lunch one day to get this shot

Do you Ice or Roller Skate?
I have tried it a few times but I spend more time sitting on the ground or ice or struggling to get up after falling I should say.
This next shot was taken when I was out taking shots of the festive windows inthe city, but As I saw the people crossing the road I thought of the Beatle Abbey Road shot and decided to take a shot of the people crossing the road, I know it is nothing like the famous Abbey Road photo but its what came to me to take this shot if that makes sense

Another shot on 5th Ave now in the past I would not have edited or shared this post because of the people in it, but when I think about it now as I am typing this NYC is always thriving with people and activity and getting shots without people is not really catching the feel of the city, so sinc e I only have two months left working inthe city I am going to make a real push to get more Street shots with people

You're probably wise to stick to photographing skaters rather than lacing up yourself. Right after Christmas, I saw kids at the park by my house trying to roller skate for the first time. It made me want to go right out and get some skates, but my wife brought me back to my senses.
I like the crosswalk image. Last year, when the 50th anniversary remastered Abbey Road album came out, they closed a crossing area in Hollywood and put up large, two-sided posters of the Abbey Road crossing, minus the Beatles. I think they had a couple of them. People lined up for a chance to take pictures of themselves crossing like the Beatles.

Ohh yeah when I first came to NY I decided to learn roller skating and even took lessons in Central Park, I got over confident and headed down a steepish slope and crashed into a fence, well not so much into it, I very impressively did a jump and almost cleared the fence, almost being the key word and crashed and burned and decided after that skating of any form is not really for me lOL
That must have been so cool with the Abbey road images must have been so popular I bet
I didn’t learn about the Abbey Road photo-op until about an hour after it ended :-(
BTW, sounds you’re getting ready to retire soon. I’m counting down myself.
Yes End of Feb is my last working day, getting so close now, how much longer do you have?
Halloween is my target. I'm counting the days!

Ice-rink would not be complete without the skaters, nice touch on edit style bringing the photo more life. Oh I stay on Terra firma safer for everyone, even when young skating was something never accomplished.

Yes I have tried both roller and Ice Skating, but was never good at either lOL
Perfection. Now I miss ice skating. Well I have only done it a couple of times but it was a lot of fun. Great bunch of photos. Really Love them.

I used to ice skate quite a bit when the back piece of property my parents own would flood and then freeze. We used to do a lot of sledding back there too. It was always a fun time. Nice shots!

I have even had ice skates once. They have been a Christmas gift from my wife's family and I have used them once. After this I preferred to sit on a bench and watch the others, what has been better for my health ;)
The photos look like old postcards to me somehow, especially the second one.
That Abbey Road guy has too short hair, but his step looks good 😉

Yes, for me it was just as you say - I could go straight forward and even make a very wide turn, but if anything was in my way I had a big problem ... so I gave my ice skates to a friend who loves them and who is still using them after so many years :)

Usually here the people have thick clothes on and at least the children wear helmets, so most accidents don't really hurt and watching them skating and fallin gcan be big entertainment 😉

Yes, especially for kids it's a good thing. A few years ago I saw someone slip on the ice and fall on the back of his head. It wasn't nice to look at, but luckily he only had a big laceration on the back of his head and a concussion.

That's true, but maybe we have only been lucky. I know there's a lot of money involved in the safety gear industry, but I think if we had a look at the statistics of bad injuries they would have changed a lot since we were young and now, when the children are wearing helmets and such.

Yes, of course, but then their parents should do the same - our kids have had to wear ski helmets and I didn't even wear a cap until they convinced me to buy a helmet too. The same was when we were riding bicycle.
