Feeling Groovy

Feeling Groovy

The title of this post comes from the Simon and Garfunkel song The 59th Street Bridge

Ever since I heard the song by Simon and Garfunkel I dreamed of visiting NYC and seeing the bridge.

I was 6 when the song came out and probably heard it about that age and remember reading or being told about the 59th Street Bridge and saying to myself I would visit and see it one day.

I never expected at that age or even in my early 20’s that I would ever make it to visit NYC, but its funny how life can give you turns good or bad and you can never know what will happen.

Not only did I visit NYC and have worked here for over 21 Years now, and I am still fascinated by this bridge, and I see it most work days and I will miss viewing it when I retire at the end of this month.
I know I have shared many shots of the bridge but I do love this bridge and think there is never too many shots of it :)

And this first shot is from Roosevelt Island which I have only visited two or three times so I haven't shared to many from this angle.

And another hsot from on Roosevelt Island I went with a Mono edit and a slightly different style from my normal mono edits, if i have a normal that is, but this is an edit style I havent tried before and was quite happy how this came out.

Running out of words to add to this post so let me add the lyrics to the song

The 59th Street Bridge Song (Feelin' Groovy)"

Slow down, you move too fast
You got to make the morning last
Just kicking down the cobblestones
Looking for fun and feelin' groovy
Ba da da da da da da, feelin' groovy

Hello, lamppost, what'cha knowin'?
I've come to watch your flowers growin'
Ain't'cha got no rhymes for me?
Doot-in doo-doo, feelin' groovy
Ba da da da da da da, feelin' groovy

I got no deeds to do
No promises to keep
I'm dappled and drowsy and ready to sleep
Let the morning time drop all its petals on me
Life, I love you
All is groovy
I am not sure if this shot is also from Roosevelt Island or from the Manhattan side.

And the last shot to finish off the post showing more of the bridge again taken on Roosevelt Island

The mono edit is awesome! Nice job. By far my favorite of this post hands down! If I had an office building that would be blown up and hung on the wall like a poster. Nice shots!

The bridge photos are amazing. It is so nice when everyday things hold so much personal meaning.

I love the song and always wondered why the title is as such. Now I know what the bridge looks like but still can't connect the lyrics to the Bridge. Are there cobblestones around the area? Flowers around the lamppost? Or does the bridge make one feel groovy? :)

Just asking. I guess if I see the place in person I might be able to relate to the words.

The pictures are great. I like best the last one.

How this song came to be is an interesting story, apparently the police department confiscated a huge amount of weed and burnt it near the bridge, not realizing doing so would affect the mood of people in the area :)

Now that's the connection I was looking for all these years. I used to do folk singing before in joints and I play a lot of Simon and Garfunkle, including this song. Thanks for the explanation. Owe you one :)

The mono conversion looks awesome, my friend, and a big print would look great on a wall.

I would be quite !DERANGED if I didn't give you a !BEER and a !COFFEEA for this $trdo post 😉

I was playing around with different edits in lightroom and photoshop and was quite happy with it but was not sure what there’s would think, but it seems to be popular

Sometimes playing around will bring good results and this shot and edit is great.

That's a problem I have sometimes - I cannot remember what I have done with an image to make another image look the same 😉

A hot morning !COFFEEA is very important for me to wake up, but later on a cold !BEER would be nice to have 😉

Ohh yeah for me as well I tried to do a similar edit last night and have no idea how I did it LOL

That's why I never delete the PSD files in Photoshop, because if I need such information I can always have a look there, but unfortunately that does not always work ... so, you are not alone my friend ;)

I just save from photoshop back to lightroom and dont keep the PSd file, perhaps its something I should do especially for new edit styles LOL

I may not be !DERANGED but I share deranged tokens, similarly I don't drink !BEER anymore

I make some edits in Lightroom and then I only work in Photoshop. My Photoshop files are very huge and need a lot of space, but I just can't delete them for the reason to look later how I have done some edits ;)

I would need to buy some more external hard drives if I was to do that and I cant do that right now so I will stick with what I have been doing

I think I wanted to clean up my files by the end of 2019, but I have forgotten ;)
My main photo drive will soon be full, so that I'll have to do it then anyway, and I think I'll also delete the oldest PSD files then and keep only the final Jpegs and the original RAW files.

I keep the original RAw, but not the jpgs as I can export them anytime from lightroom if I need them, but that said I have 4 External hard drives about 7TB in total LOL

That's true about the jpgs and I should think about that too when I clean up :)

I still haven't made the backups like I want them. So I have one hard drive with 4 TB which I always take with me and one 6TB backup drive attached to my computer at home. Additionally I want to have a second backup which I only plug in when I make a backup the latest files ... one day I'll do that, but hopefully before it's too late ;)

Good morning :)
When I import them into Lightroom I have 3 copies - two on two hard drives and the third on the SD card which I format after a while.
I think I'll reactivate my NAS for another copy of the RAW files.

A few years ago I bought one, but mainly to store and stream our private videos and movies, but I don't think anybody but me has ever used it. So I shut it off last year, but maybe I'll use it for photo backups in future ... or I find another, better solution :)

A NAS is a great solution for photos but i am not sure how well lightroom works with it

Yep, that's also what I'm thinking, but the two hard disks in the NAS are too small anyway, so I'll search for something else. Maybe just a big hard disk which I plug in once a week and backup the latest files. If I only had a bigger space with more room, not only for a small photo studio, but also for my computer stuff ;)

I do need another bigger external hard drive, watching for the next sale they are a lot more affordable these days

The prices for hard drives have become quite low in the past years and you can never have enough disk space ;)

That bridge can certainly flaunt itself for your camera JJ.
Some of the most beautiful shots of a bridge that I have seen.
Well done here!
Blessings!
