Just a Walk in the Park - A Matter of Perspective

Gulls 2.jpg

Yesterday I took a bike ride out of the city center to my favorite local park. I wandered through the park in the crisp autumn light watching the squirrels and ducks going about their daily hunts for food. Walking quietly and taking the odd photograph.

The change of pace from the bustling rumble of buses passing was just what I needed, and it reminded me that perspective is the author of our reality. The place where we're at in our minds is so often the dictate of our thoughts. The ghost in the machine paints a picture that isn't necessarily accurate through the limited palette of colors called perspective.

If you look at the title picture in this post it is a seemingly chaotic scene. The geese, swans and ducks squabble with seagulls over the feed that a lady was throwing to them. For me this was a magic moment. I connect strongly with nature on a spiritual level, capturing the gulls in flight and the cacophony of life thronging the bank of the lake made me smile.

This and all the other pictures I'm going to share below put me in a place of quiet observance. This is my favorite aspect of experimenting with photography - it's a matter of perspective.

The park was a wonderful escape from the city noise, the honks of horns being replaced by that of geese and the cries of gulls riding the breeze.

The water was thinly iced over in parts and this swan had to muscle its way through like a trawler, wings held aloft to save them from the cold.

After wandering in the park I jumped on my bike and continued on to the river front. Sitting by the banks of the Mersey on a crisp Wednesday afternoon is one of the quietest spots in Liverpool.

20191203_142007.jpg

The river was as flat as a millpond. A mirrored surface, shimmering patterns of living light in the slight play of the ripples.

20191203_143507.jpg

As I neared home and the end of my ride boats were leaving the marina. The raised bridge was lowering allowing the leveling of the water contained within.

A careful management of flow.

A final change of perspective.

Thanks for reading.

Nice photographs. It looks so peaceful. I bet it's a great place to just sit and stare at nature. I'm a sucker for such places.

How have you been? Been a minute.

Hi Chinny :)

I've been fine thanks. It has been a while for sure. I've been super busy IRL so the old steem networking and keeping up with old friends has taken a back seat.

Sry bout that. I always liked your fiction. So I am going to make a point of checking out your latest post tomorrow after I get back in to the house.

Yes, both otterspool prom (by the river) and Sefton park are really chilled places to hang out and take a breath :)

I bloody loved exactly those kind of scenes. There is a park with a big pond/lake stake near me and it is magical even more so when the birds congregate and go mad for the food someone's throwing!

Yeah, I have great memories of feeding the ducks when I was a kid and being mobbed by the Canada geese on that lake. I'm sure the same asshole goose comes back year after year... one of them was giving me the evil eye 😉

But in all seriousness I do love a wander in the park and the frenetic birds just kinda reminded me that the stressy feelings I get in the city sometimes are just a matter of perspective.

Sht, gettin deep and meaningful on steem again 😂.... I don't know what is coming over me these days!

Fkn hippy... ;O)

I love being outdoors. I was reading that it is a great stress reliever and it was silly to act=ually have to read it before realising that yes indeed it is. Being in a big foresty wood or by the water takes all the bad vibes out of me and makes me super chill. Bit like gazing at the night sky!

Yeah man... being a tree hugger is actually good for your health! In all seriousness though, ask the Japanese! They hug trees on the regular for stress reduction 😉

This is such a beautiful post, yes we all need to slow down and re connect, it is so vital to our well being. That park looks beautiful and your final words sum up the experience perfectly.

Cheers for the visit Naturalmedicine and @trucklife-family

Yeah, I'm really flying hi at the moment from these daily abundance meditations I'm doing in the NM community. It is opening me up to seeing all these perfect moments all around me.

I was in the city center the other day and even the crowds weren't bothering me! That's the first time in a while that I've felt that comfortable in a crowded city space :)

Great shots!
I agree it IS all about perspective. However, I do feel nature a much easier place to calm the mind. I live in nature, and am not sure how well I'd fair in the middle of a city. I'd no doubt spend much time in parks.

Thanks for sharing your thoughts (and photography!)

Beautiful... I am looking forward to having time to take my proper camera out. Since Dads been ill, he has totally focussed (no pun intended) on his camera, giving him something to do other than surfing and yoga... it can be quite the meditative tool! I wonder if I will ever visit Liverpool. Seems strange I haven't, given I lived in UK all that time. Who know.. maybe one day I will take photos of swans on the Mersey. Looks beautiful x

Yeah, I've always found photography to me mefditative, and I've only got my smart phone to experiment with but even then you can get some good shots by experimenting with perspective etc.

You guys are welcome to visit when you come back to the UK. My bedsit is so small I wouldn't be able to put you up, but I would be happy to show you around and point out some of the secret gems of 'the pool'.
P.s.... no swans on the Mersey though, it's a massive river/estuary. Those pics of the birds were from sefton park ;-)

Beautiful! I can only imagine how peaceful it must be to have that chance from the noise and hustle of the city! But then it's all a matter of perspective! Some people thrive on the pulse of the heart of the city (not me - I'm like use better liking to atune to nature)!

yeah, I feel where you're coming from @porters I'm much happier in a wild natural place, but I have no choice but to continue with the city living at this time. Hopefully this will change with time :)

My dream place to live would be somewhere tropical near to the sea where I can freedive (and scuba) on the reef and live simply. Dreams to some day make reality :)

Love it! Go for it! I chose to live in the forest and I'm so happy I made that choice!
