MORE FLOWER PHOTOGRAPHY, INFO ON MICRO-GREENS, AND SO MUCH MORE!

As I have indicated in the past I have taken multiple photo of many roses. I try and make sure the photos I have used have not been used before. So the photo I share is unique, although I may have used other photos of flowers from the same rose bush. The above rose looks so refreshing, especially when we have so much snow outside. I am already looking toward summer and another trip with my daughter to Manito Gardens, in Spokane, Washington.

INTRODUCTION

I would like to take a moment and thank @club12 for interviewing me last Sunday on their Discord server RadioSteemit. We were able to work with an interpreter (@drakernoise) because this is a Spanish Speaking Discord server. For those who may be unfamiliar with @club12 read last weekend’s post where I provided some background on their project. I was introduced to RadioSteemit, and subsequently @club12 by @lisfabian, so I owe her a big thank you as well.

We have had a mild winter thus far, although recently we started getting snow and today it is colder than it has been. Thus far we have had over 24 inches of snow (60.96 centimeters). In that I live in a rural area I have to keep myself plowed out. It took 4 hours one of the days plowing because we got rain on top of the snow. Normally I can finish in 2 hours. Since my last plow it has snowed more, but it is a powdery snow so I held off plowing until we get more. And they are predicting more snow this week. Working with my flower photographs and growing micro-greens indoors helps get through the roughest of our winter weather.

Photographs

I am going to do like last week and share a few photos of flowers, and then add some additional photos of micro-greens. This time I will share the starting of a couple of trays of seeds.

The next flower photograph is of Sweet-pea blossom from last summer.

This next flower is commonly called Purple Cone flower (Echinacea).

I wanted to share a photo of the scene behind my house from earlier in the week. The sun was shining after some fresh snow. Working with my flower photos and planting micro-greens helps me get through the winter months.

Micro-Greens/Micro-Verdes

It is very nice to be able to grow fresh micro-greens anytime of the year. When I first start reading about micro-greens the literature discussed both commercial growing and home use. I enjoy reading about both because some of what I have learned from commercial growers can also be applied to home use. In regards to home use they also discussed that you did not need a lot of space. Some people grow in windowsills, or on shelves and sometimes a table in front of a window. I was already set up for indoor growing in containers and hydroponics and had a lighting set up, but it is not necessary.

In warmer times of the year, or warming parts of the world they can be grown outside. This could be on a balcony (if in an apartment) or patio. Many types of containers can be used. I have larger growing-trays that I use in my greenhouse, although they produced too much. I recently bought trays half the size of what I had, for larger seeds like sunflowers and pea shoots. Most of what I use is recycled plastic trays and some aluminum baking pans. Any container would work.

I save seeds from my sunflower patch and my pea patch which can save the cost of buying. I am planting something each day when I see I am running low. It takes around 7 days sometimes up 10 or 12 days, depending on what is being grown.

It does not take a lot of space to grow plenty of greens for home use. They are harvested at a very early stage so they are small in height. I eat salads as well and blend some. When I blend it I add fruit and coconut water.

You can find many videos on YouTube on this subject matter. A search on Steemit also brought up some articles on growing micro-greens.

These first two photographs show potting soil in the tray, packed down and seeds on top of the soil. The first one are pea seeds. These larger seeds I like to cover with enough potting soil to cover the seeds. The second photo is broccoli seed. I leave these smaller seeds on top of the soil. I use a piece of wood to press the seeds into the soil. For the peas I pack down the soil that is covering the seeds. Once the trays are planted I spray the top layer of with water. The soil is already moist but I want to make sure enough moisture is in contact with the seeds for germination.

IMG_6792-S.JPG

This next one shows the piece of wood I am packing down the soil over the peas.

IMG_6795-S.JPG

I am trying a different method with these trays. The one that contains the soil and seeds has holes in the bottom. I am setting them into a second tray without holes. In this way as they grow I can water underneath the planted tray. I then stack them on top of each other with an empty tray on top of that. I then place some kind of weight on top of that.

IMG_6796-S.JPG

IMG_6800-S.JPG

I will now check the trays daily and spray more water as needed. As the seeds begin to sprout I may spray them more than once a day, but will continue stacking the trays and have a weight on top. From what I read the weight on top helps simulate how the seeds would act in the garden, and help them maintain vigor. I seeded these two trays on Thursday and will take periodic photos of their progress and use them in next week’s post.

Conclusion/Conclusión

That brings us to the close of another weekend publication. These publications are getting longer each week. I am going to try and list some of the curation projects at the end, but will provide less information than usual. I am doing this to save space and time.

I believe it is important to stay aware of the various curation projects. Each functions different so check with their Discord Server for more specifics. You can also ask questions directly to them and ensure you understand how they function.

Thank you. I love fresh broccoli and have previously had them mixed with other micro-greens , so I am looking forward to these that I planted. They are just starting to sprout. I will start taking photos in a day or so to monitor the growth. Have to start more seeds today. Not sure what I will plant.

Muchas gracias.

Thank you for this beautiful and complete publication full of good vibes, joy, gift of people. You are a very special person, Mr Cornell, your immense love for what you do and what you give to those around you makes you very special. I am grateful for all the support you give to @club12 and @radiosteemit, as well as to our individual work so that we continue to grow and evolve on this beautiful platform, as well as to support those who walk hand in hand in our communities. Steemit is going to be even more beautiful because solidarity and affection reign, as well as the good creation of contents that enrich it. I love its flowers and its crops, I should make a more extensive publication of the microcultures to learn and realize them ourselves at home. God bless you enormously, keep you warm and take good care of yourself. A thousand thanks for being, being and making our lives happy with your presence and special support. I embrace you from here. @r2cornell

Hello, Mr. R2cornell! The first picture is beautiful. I have a predilection for the kind of publications that upload pictures of flowers. Today, by the way, in @radiosteemit's #Top10 Challenge, there was a participant who showed a Velvet Flower. It's beautiful.
On the other hand, in my country Venezuela, many people are planting their own food. That helps them to cope with some expenses.
Welcome and thank you for your support to @club12 and @radiosteemit.

Hello friend @r2cornell Happy Anno 2020! From Venezula I greet you.

Congratulations for such beautiful photos, of nature more than anything else, because all nature is beautiful, a great variety of plants and animals so that through the lens of a camera we can capture so much beauty, that sometimes we do not reach all of them.

I am also a member of @club12 grateful for your contribution to the club, that support is of great significance for everyone.

Success and keep on succeeding.

I'm also a small photographer on the road to growth, I love what I do.
