The old Perry Como song talks of putting a star in your pocket, and while you will not be able to do that, you can arrange to visit the Dearborn Observatory and view the stars!

Catch a falling star and put it in your pocket
Never let it fade away
Catch a falling star and put it in your pocket
Save it for a rainy day

Dearborn Observatory is located on the Evanston campus of Northwestern University. There are free public viewings on Friday evenings where you can stop in and do a little star watching.

The observatory was originally constructed in 1888.

The Observatory is open to the public for viewing with the historic 18.5" refracting telescope every Friday night from 9:00 - 11:00 PM
Rain or Shine! But of course, clear nights are better for viewing!

I hopp by to see how you are doing with the #cc tag/token. Did you buy or? I posted my first one too. Pity the Observatory is not in my neighbourhood. Never saw a falling star either.

You need to be away from city lights to watch for meteors.

@melinda010100 I live on the country. No city lights and only a few houses in this area. I can see the stars clearly. Never saw a shooting one. Perhaps too cloudy or fog?

I will check the tag from now on daily. It is a good way to find content too..I will see how to buy asap my connection is better.

I wish you a great day.

Wow! How nice to have this observatory nearby so that you could drop by to say hello to your favourite stars or to flag some UFOs!

It is near my son's house. Watching for aliens would keep those students busy! 👀

Oh, how I would like a telescope like that! I used to have a nice 4-inch refractor, but this thing is 19 inches... that would be awesome!

Wow! Does the moon look bigger with that massive telescope, even though when it’s shrinking into a new moon? 🌙

I went once, but it was too cloudy to have a clear view.

Usually there are so many people that if you do get a turn to look through the telescope, you only get time for a quick glance.

That sounds like fun. I suppose you can't hook your camera up to it like a big lens? lol

They barely give you time to glance through it. The clear evenings are pretty crowded.

My dream is to visit an observatory and to be able to look at the sky with bigger telescope than mine.
I love to watch the sky and despite the light polution I am happy to see Jupiter and Saturn from home. But I would be thrilled to see more.

This one in Chicago is a short bus ride from my son's house, Yerkes Observatory which houses the biggest refracting telescope in the world is less than an hours drive from here, although it is no longer open to the public. In the next town over there is an Observatory with a 16 inch aperture diameter Cassegrain reflecting telescope. So there really is no excuse not to visit. They host some really great lectures there. You would love it!

Oh, lucky you. There is an observatory not far from my place but they show the public their 6 inch telescope, which is the same as mine. But who knows, one day I may have better chance. Still it is on my bucket list.😀

Howdy Melinda! Very interesting indeed! I assume they let people look through it too but it's mostly for viewing stars at night I'd think.

Whoops... Several of these comments are from the cc bot. Is there a way you can eliminate them from your totals? They hardly count as real engagement!

My hit-parade tends to reflect the activity of the blockchain, including that generated by bots.
It would be an exhausting job to permanently update the list of bot to exclude them. Moreover, this could be considered sort of censorship, which I do not want.
I agree that these choices make the result a bit less accurate, but I honestly think it's a lesser evil.
