The Long Evening Of The High Latitudes

(Edited)

In the high latitudes of the planet, the sun never gets very close to the zenith. Even in at summer solstice, it goes only has high as 90-61+23.5 = 52.5 degrees where I live. That's enough to produce 79% of the intensity of solar radiation of the sun when it is at the zenith of the sky. But now that winter solstice is near, the sun only rises to 90-61-23.5 = 5.5 degrees above the horizon at midday. The power of the sun is only about 9.5% of that which it would be if it were at the zenith. The whole day is basically a long evening. Seasonal Affective Disorder is the more common the further north you go. Here are some pictures taken today in the afternoon when I went to run some errands.
