Long Exposures Taken In The District Of Niemi

I went back to the same place where my family and I took a walk yesterday evening after our Independence Day meal. This time I had my DSLR and my tripod with me. As you can expect, the images turned out drastically better.

Here's a link to yesterday's post:

They have so much clarity that my eyes are twitching with delight. Wow nice shots, the lightening is super nice too.

I was like 10 when I watched the fifth element, I need to watch it again.

Thank you for your positive feedback!

I have a Nikon D3400 which is an entry level Digital Single Lens Reflective camera. The lens used was the Nikkor 18-55 AFP kit lens. These images were taken with the camera stabilized on a tripod and exposure times ranged from 15 to 30 seconds. The reason for the clarity and bright colors despite the darkness was the use of long exposure times. The scenery looks unnatural but I like it this way very much.

The skill was in knowing how to set up the camera to take long exposures and to compose the image in such a way as to please the eye. The "rules" of composition that I use here were the rule of thirds, symmetry (place the horizon in the center if there is vertical symmetry) and the golden ratio. I also tried to organize the images so as to have foreground, middle ground and background elements where applicable. The images were cropped in such a way as to have lines begin from the corners instead of next to them if there were any notable lines thereabouts. In the fourth image, the waterfront acts as a leading line from the right corner to the lights in the middle ground and eventually to the background.
