I think, we can manage that, and yes, you are right - the views would be worth all the work 🙂

We could even turn part of it into an AirB&B and charge $500 a night!

Very good idea @janton ... and within a few months all costs for renovation would be paid.
This was a military fortress, and there are certainly prison cells in the basement. Mrs. J could work there - I think, some people would even pay more if they can sleep in such a cell with Mrs. J as prison officer 🙂

lol! That sir, is a brilliant idea! She could dress in period clothing and carry a big sword and treat the "prisoners" like they would have been treated back then...well, sort of. lol. They would pay big bucks for such an experience!

And you would sit upstairs in your office and count the Euros, because we are in Europe 😉
The idea would be good and I think, it would even work, because I have heard of hotels like that.

Oh really? I mean howdy today sir johannpiber! In fact it is still morning here so Guten Morgen( I THINK that's how you spell it, lol).

That is super interesting. We can cash in on the craziness of people. I suppose they enjoy being whipped in their cells too? lol.

It would be interesting to read on the websites of such hotels.

Here I say good evening / guten Abend at this time, my friend 🙂

I don't know, how mad some people are, but I think, if they pay for sleeping in a prison cell they also won't mind being tortured ;) lol

I haven't seen any websites of such hotels, just heard of them.

Do you have any of such amazing hotels in Austria, do you think? I am not sure what to type into a search for such hotels. Most people want the most luxury in a hotel. lol.

I've done a quick search with the words "prison" and "hotel" and found this page: https://www.mirror.co.uk/travel/news/10-former-prisons-turned-hotels-13985252
But I haven't found one in Austria.

Austria is probably still using all their prisons from thousands of years ago. lol. Hey that is a great article sir johannpiber, I might have to use that to do a post about these places!

I have given you an idea for a post - cool 🙂
Our prisons are modern and user-friendly, what means, the guests should feel comfortable and don't miss anything ;)

Your prisons sound like hotels! lol. Maybe the crimes aren't that bad there so they don't need lots of prisons. Someone just steals a goat now and then. lol.

Good evening @janton 🙂

Oh, we have all kinds of crime here, but the prisoners have many rights, and I would not mind being imprisoned in Austria.

What the?? You wouldn't mind? Well then that is not a very good system to deter crime is it? If they are treated that well...interesting. So if you are going to commit a crime, do it in Austria.

Yes, they get good food, watch TV, make sports..., and if not there are authorities where they can complain.

wow. Ok then, if I decide to start a criminal career I will do it in Austria! lol.

You should definitely do it here, because you might have the better life than the prison officers.

lol..that is just wrong! It doesn't sound like there is any deterrent in the justice system there.

Oh, there is - they are locked in and there are some rules, but all in all they have a quite easy life ;)

But for some people, being locked up is not a deterrent if they are real lazy and willing to exchange being taken care of for freedom. It's a hard concept to understand isn't it?

Another thing they do over here is not take care of themselves because they are spending all their time getting high or trying to get high..then when they get to jail they demand help with all kinds of medical and dental problems that the state has to pay for. lol.

Such people are hard to understand, some homeless people here try to get imprisoned in winter to have it warm ;) lol

That's the same here - the state pays for substitute drugs. I think, that's wrong, at least for these people, who don't really want to quit drugs.

I agree sir johannpiber and it sure isn't fari to everyone who is working hard and paying the taxes to support them while they get food, clothing and shelter for free. I think when you go to prison you should have to work, they should have some kind of factory there.

I agree with what you are saying. They should have to work for their food and for everything else they want. Nobody should want to go into jail again after being there once 🙂

I agree. Over here we had a county Sheriff that housed the prisoners in tents out in the desert of Arizona so the heat was incredible.

Plus he made them work in chain gangs like they used to do. He had the same philosophy that you just said and believe me, no one wanted to go back to jail after being in his system!

A lot of those prisoners had never had to work before and they did not like that one bit. lol.

That sounds somehow great, but I think that's too much 😉
We have several official and partly governmental institutions which visit prisons on a regularly basis and look if everything is alright, ask the prisoners if everything is fine, if the food is ok...

Well in this Sheriff's system the prisoners were in good health and taken care of adequately, they just weren't spoiled! Because why should the criminals get access to better care and more amenities than their victims?

That's so true and that's what I always say, but it is as it is. On the other hand, if I should get imprisoned, for whatever reason, I would be glad to have a nice life in there ;)

If they wouldn't give me a laptop and internet I would certainly complain wherever I can, that's for sure ;) lol
