My favorite Mountain / Mein Lieblingsberg

If this post goes online, I'm on a mountain and enjoy the peace.

Hochstadel
2.681 m / 8,796 ft

The Hochstadel is my favorite mountain for a simple reason, because it is beautiful and you have a fantastic view from above.
In addition, my parents house is right down below the mountain in the valley 😉

From the mountain pasture you have this view of the Hochstadel and the 3 peaks next to it, on which of course you can hike too. Starting from left there are the Rosengarten (2,202 m), the Hochstadel itself (2,681 m), the Rudnigkofel (2,283 m) and the Wiesenspitz (2,074 m) on the right, where the pasture goes up to the peak.

When I have breakfast in front of our cabin, which is that small thing on this photo, I see all over the Drau valley.

Of course, several normal hiking trails and also 3 climbing routes lead to the summit of the Hochstadel.

I shot this photo on the way home. It shows the mountain in all its glory :)

Two weeks ago after a long time I was once again at the summit and was able to experience a wonderful sunrise all by myself and in complete peace. But I had to hike about 2 1/2 hours in complete darkness with only my headlamp.

As mentioned at the beginning, when this post goes online, I'm on a mountain, the Dobratsch, and according to the weather forecast, it should also snow ... I will see if I can get back down today 😉

I have grown up there and I love to be there, you are right @cezary-io, thank you so much 🙂
I am already back, thank you, but I have been on another mountain ;) I have been on the Dobratsch where I am often in Winter. There was a lot of snow, it was snowing and because of the fog I couldn't see the sunset ;) Never mind, the hike was great 🙂

It is, my friend, it is , thank you so much 🙂
Before they built the forest road up there we have been hiking about 3.5 hours from the valley up to the mountain pasture, but nowadays we drive about 45 minutes up to the treeline ;)

That makes for an easier hike but you should be hiking the full trail to built up for your 6 month hike we talked about or is that a !DERANGED idea lol

I have hiked up there quite a few times when I was young - I don't think, I will do it ever again ;)
It is a !DERANGED idea, but I still would love to take a few months off and hike that trail - from start to the end 🙂

Yeah I am to old for that sort of hike anymore i prefer walking on the flat, I would be !DERANGED trying to hike up a mountain and in need of !BEER

😉 I could also walk along our lake, but there are always at any times many people and a nice peaceful walk would not really be possible, apart from walking in the rain.

Since I started hiking again after a few years doing quite nothing I love it more and more and I am already planning a new hike for the weekend, but we have real bad !DERANGED November weather with coldness and rain. So I have no idea yet.

Oh, my friend, you have no idea what can be on a mountain. There is a saying "Auf der Alm da gibt's koa Sünd'" = "Auf der Alm, da gibt es keine Sünde" = "There is no sin on the mountain pasture" ... whatever you do there will be OK. Well, not anything, but most things will be OK, including having a !DERANGED amount of !BEER that you cannot find your own cabin in the night, which is only 50 meters away ;) lol

Howdy sir johannpiber! Wonderful photos and scenery there, just beautiful. Did it snow while you were up there?

0

Thank you so much @janton 🙂

No snow - I have had the best Autumn weather that day - it was quite warm and no cloud was on the sky. This hike was about 3 weeks ago, but now there is a lot of snow up there.

!BEER

So you got there right before the snow started, that was good planning. Are you going back to show what it looks like in the snow?

0
0

avatar

In winter you have to hike up there in the snow, because the snow will not be removed from the forest road up to the mountain pasture. This hike takes about 3 hours without snow and is kind of boring, because you walk most times on the gravel road. I don't think I will hike up there in winter - there are other mountains where I'll go hiking and photographing 🙂

But I could take photos in the valley looking up 😉

And even though your feet are as big as Big Foot's feet, they could still be larger for walking on snow. lol. Are those things still made of basket like material? Probably not, they are probably plastic or something. Are they expensive?

They are much lighter today because they are made of plastics and/or carbon fibre and they cost from 200 Euros 🙂

You want to spend even MORE time on Steemit? How many hours do you think you would spend if you were not working?

0

No, not more time, but I could use any of the 24 hours a day has - do some commenting in the morning, go somewhere photographing, edit photos and prepare a post, post and do some commenting before I go to sleep. This would be an optimal day for me ;)
I know, that's just like I am doing now, apart from the photographing :)

So you don't need more time. You just want to be free from your job which has become boring, that is very sound and logical. Especially for an old goat. lol.

Yes, that's it my friend, being free from a job which only wastes the time I could use for more important things, would be so great.

There won't be enough castles on this earth for all these !DERANGED rich Steemians - we have to build new ones or move to the Mars, where the Marsians have built a lot of castles in the underground 😉

!BEER

lol! Is that what's happening on Mars? That's good to hear, I'd hate to think that the planet is not being used. I hope that is true about there being so many deranged rich steemians. lol.

No, I also don't think, they will allow you to bring your !BEER with you, but hey, you can built your own brewery on the Mars and sell the Marsian beer on earth :)

Howdy today sir johannpiber! I think the priority of the settlers on Mars would be to build a still to make some kind of beer or whiskey! And just think what it would be worth if you could bring some back here!

!BEER

Yes, I think we need first a very very very high price of steem. Didn't it get down to 12 cents again a few days ago? jeez. But anyway I think maybe SpaceX is doing a trip to Mars maybe? Not sure.

0

The name SpaceX sounds familiar and you might be right @janton, but I don't think we could afford a flight at a Steem price of 12 cent, but we could ask though ;) lol

That is how I am feeling quite often these days - I am so tired. Maybe this is just a result of the bad gray and dark weather we have - hopefully it will snow soon, because then everything will get brighter and I might want to go out again and this !DERANGED mood will be gone ;)

!BEER

That weather has truly been deranged over there! I think you guys are hogging all the clouds. It is a good thing you are tougher than it is.

0

After the rain comes the sunshine 😉
The weather is truly very different this year - I cannot remember that we ever have had such a bad weather over weeks. I have seen the sun once or twice in the past 3 weeks.
But now it is getting cold outside, the frost is coming and this will change the whole weather situation - hopefully to the good 😉

!BEER

When you are posting photos for steemit the weather is supposed to cooperate better! But perhaps it will from now on. Or else you might slip into depression!

0

I don't mind bad weather, even photographing in the rain can produce beautiful photos, but when the bad weather lasts for weeks and all is gray in gray every day, my motivation gets lost. Now, after a quite nice day, the motivation comes slowly back and if the weather stays nice I will be able to post new photos soon ;)

!BEER

That sounds good sir johannpiber, are your cameras water-proof?

0

Yes, my camera can resist rain, but I cannot dive with it or stay too long in the rain though ;)

!BEER

0

avatar

Are the nice cameras which are water-proof very expensive or do they make any that are waterproof?

0
0
0.000
avatar

I don't kow any cameras which are completely water-proof that you even could dive with them.
Of course, some of the smaller cameras are able to, but I think of the big SLR's. For these you can buy underwater housings, which almost as expensive as the camera itself ;)

!BEER

0
0
0.000
avatar

That makes sense, sometimes I see photographers with their cameras covered or wrapped in plastic.

0
0
0.000
avatar

Yes, if the weather resistant cameras are too long in the rain some water might get inside the camera and damage it. I have such a plastic bag in my backpack too - just in case ;)
Generally you should avoid water, but a little bit of rain or so does not matter. My old camera was not weather / water resistant and got completely frozen last winter on a mountain, but it worked fine :)

!BEER

Your cameras are good quality ones so they should be able to withstand a little bit of winter weather there!

0

Yes, I am very condifent, that some frost and ice won't harm the camera, but I'll see when I'm next week on a snow hike :)

It hasn't snowed very much yet has it?

It has snowed a lot where my parents live and in the mountains, but here we have had only rain, much !DERANGED rain.

!BEER

That sucks. Rain is ugly. If it is going to be winter then let there be snow!

0

Rain can be cool, but I don't like it in the colder months like now, when it should be snowing.

!BEER

I agree, that sucks, especially when it turns to ice while you are driving.

0

I love to drive on snowy roads, but rain can turn quickly into ice, as you say. And that's something I do not like.

!BEER

0

Exactly. I miss the snow since we came down here but at least we don't have to worry about icy roads.

0
0
0.000

No advantage without disadvantage, but I think you can live quite good without the snow, and if you miss it too much you can always drive north or east (no idea where in Texas you are about) to find some snow :)

!BEER

0

We are in North Texas, only about 45 minutes from the border of Oklahoma so it would only take an hour or two to find snow.

That's perfect - if you need snow you take a few hours off work, if Mrs. J lets you, and within 2 hours you see that cold white stuff ;)

!BEER

That is the problem though. Mrs. J. rules the place with an iron fist and she would never allow such an excursion. lol.
