A musical journey in photos

I'd like to share a couple of photos from a tour I did with the Tivoli Big Band (Denmark) back in 2009.

It was a music/theatre kind of deal, the story was about "the first boy band in Denmark", a vocal quartet called "Four Jacks" which was founded back in 1956. The show was about their lives, friendships, hardships, personalities and of course their music. The show premiered in Glassalen (The Hall of Glass) in Tivoli Gardens, Copenhagen, Denmark in 2008, with the Tivoli Big Band as backing orchestra and after a very successful run there, another season and two tours were planned for 2009, where these photos are from.

At the time, I'd just added an EOS 3 to my collection and was (yet again) taking photos wherever I went, to the increasing annoyance of my surroundings who didn't want their picture taken. Musicians are usually much easier in this regard - in fact they are quite the opposite, sometimes to the annoyance of the photographer... I also wanted to do some black and whites, as I hadn't really gotten into it before. But let's face it, music, musicians and b&w photography just lend themselves really well to each other.

I haven't really post-processed any of these, except for a few minor crops and removal of the most glaring specks of dust or scratches on the film and/or scanner which ICE didn't catch. I deliberately didn't want to start messing with curves or levels, I wanted as raw an output as I could. Of course that means that some are over- or underexposed, but so be it. I also have a feeling that I might have pushed the film one or two stops, but I can't remember for sure... Either way, I like the grain in these. The ever-changing lighting conditions during a soundcheck or a tech rehearsal is always tricky, so some of these are inevitably a bit blurry as a result. Not to mention the fact that it's very hard to catch an actor standing still...

Of course, I have a few favourites among these, but do feel free to let me know in a comment which you like the most. I sincerely hope you enjoy the photos, and I hope you have a great rest of your day, wherever and whenever you are.
