Golden Amsterdam

Seventeenth century mansions line the canals throughout Amsterdam. Originating as a poor fishing village in the late 12th century, Amsterdam became one of the most important ports in the world during the Dutch Golden Age in the 17th century due to its lead in developments of global trading technology. During that time, the city was the global centre for finance and trade and become the wealthiest city in the world. Ships sailed from Amsterdam to the Baltic Sea, North America, and Africa, as well as present-day Indonesia, India, Sri Lanka, and Brazil, forming the basis of a worldwide trading network. Amsterdam's name derives from Amstelredamme, from the city's origin as a dam of the river Amstel.

I shot this with a canon nifty 50mm f.18 at f10.
