Greetings dear friends and photography lovers

Today, I come again, to tell you about the birds that inhabit my beloved Venezuelan soil. This time, I bring you images of the nice pelicans. They are very peculiar birds, since they are water birds. Belonging to the genus Pelecaniforme and the monotypic family Pelecanidae, it is known scientifically by the name of Pelecanus.

Always, it has caught my attention its long and characteristic peak, which resembles a sack. This peculiarity allows this bird to obtain its food. To catch its prey, it plunges into the sea, plunging in search of its favorite food, the weights. Once he catches them inside his beak, he has the ability to drain the water, before swallowing his livelihood.

They are distributed globally, unevenly, since they live only in coastal areas, ranging from intertropical to temperate ecosystems. It is presumed, that they are native to the coastal areas, of the European, Asian and African continents, in addition to the surrounding islands, they subsequently extended to America.

Through the times, fishermen have had a complicated relationship with these birds, since they consider that they interfere negatively with their work. This situation, unfortunately, has encouraged their hunting, and led inevitably, to a dangerous decrease in their population. Other factors, such as the destruction of their habitats, indiscriminate fishing and pollution, have also played against the preservation of different species, considering some of them, currently in danger.
