What season are we in?

avatar

It can be so confusing to judge the season by the look of the trees.
Of course it is middle of the winter and to me (coming from the harsh Polish winters) fruit trees should be standing there naked waiting for spring. Leaves are gone, buds are sleeping. Nothing moves and everything is grey and dead alike.

We went to the countryside today as the weather was nice (and to pick some lemons - but that is obviously not normal). And the young orchard there was so confusing!
Some trees were naked as they should (winter), some still had yellow leaves on (autumn) that even the harsh storms we have been having didn't conquer them, and some were growing brand new fruits.
Of course lemons are always there waiting to be picked. So weird!

Even though they are all beaten and eaten up I still think they look nice. With those colour and those bites.

I am not quite sure what thee was it. Apple or pear maybe?

And then I turn around and I see brand new fruits forming! Those are baby Loquat fruits. Still a bit until they mature, but they are also one of the first in season (not counting lemons that can hung on the tree all year round).

After some years of living here it still amazes me that fruits do mature in December or January.

The wonders of Mother Nature. Truly a sight to behold and to marvel at. I never lived through a single winter so I do not know how things are during this season. But we do have a wintering season when leaves of certain species begin to fall off from trees leaving the trees bare of foliage as if in winter. But not all trees. So I guess it's just like how you describe it that some are bare, some not and some have fruits!

Yes, that's what they do in winter. They stop growing and lose the leaves. Then when it is warmer the juices start to flow again and they start growing new set of leaves.

Our area can't make up it's mind. Spring ? Winter?.... a few days of each here and there?

Need to keep warm and cool clothing ready. Never know day to day what you might need to wear !

The Yellow Bell bushes are blooming. Soon they will probably freeze their buds off. :)

Yep.. all getting crazy. Winters are warm and then in May comes the snowstorm (in Poland at least).

This reminds me of what orchards look like in arizona. Desert climates put some roughness on the trees, but with enough water they still do fine.

Here the weather is totally crazy! It is way too warm and to little rains.

I love these photos! While a nice photo of a beautiful flower can make me very happy, I am equally appreciative of these - it takes a great eye to make them into compositions that capture their beauty. Fro some reason they remind me of haiku, they have an essence that a flower in full bloom or a spectacular sunset does not. Excellent work.

Thank you very much! I always enjoyed shooting the less obvious thing. And all the dry and decaying parts of plants especially.
