Light Tests - part 1

First results from my light tests yesterday with the Redhead halogens. Goodbye available light, hello old school film studio lights, my new lovers.

I have two of them, but I used only one for each picture because I still have to get a dimmer to at least the other light so I have more room to work with them. 800W it pretty darn bright and my apartment is not that big so the lights will have to be close to me, and two of them is too much.

I tried a lot of different things in only two hours and I had a lot of fun with them. I was expecting to be really overwhelmed and frustrated because I'm used to using only available light, but damn, I'm actually really into it. There lights are pretty darn perfect for the film/neo noir look I so love.

Lots of dramatic looks to become with me and these lights. I love that I can really carve out the shapes I really like with these lights, the super sharp lines and heavy contrast, that's my vibe. But like you can see, I did try the softer look too. I'll show more soon.

Self portraits shot with the Fujifilm x100f.

Well done!

Such powerful lights are perfect for creating interesting shadows. With what you're wearing in these pictures, I wonder if you could create dramatic silhouettes on the wall. If you want sharp shadows, I imagine the line between you and the light should be close to perpendicular to the wall. Or by hanging a white sheet between you and one of the powerful lights could work by making you the shadow. I have no idea whether that would work in practice. Post processing to fix any potential lightning imperfections.

Just some things that sprang to my mind after learning about your setup.

Now I just need a proper studio backdrop, too much stuff on every wall/or a wallpaper messing things up.

But I have lots of different ideas for the lights :)

The drama! I feel like you are walking into a pulp detective novel.

Can't wait to see what else you have in store, and when you have more control with a dimmer, I think you will find so many amazing opportunities!

That is kind of my mood with photos a lot of the times :)

I’m having such a great time with the lights and it was only the first try, much more in store!

The pleasure of following you is mine, now for about two years. In that time, your work, at certain moments struck such a chord within me; the result every single time, reforges my will to photograph the visions that take place in my dreams and imagination. Right now, I feel so close to you in that, new gadgets you've come upon are helping you further capture your visions, give them form, and for me, that is most enjoyable. Please, whatever you do Eve, don't stop. I thank you for remaining the individual that you are.

All very good, but the second one is my favourite. It's funny you know, I make my bed the same way as you! Legit.

Ok, not really.

Good pictures...But not a garlic bread in sight? 😝

I don’t usually make my bed at all 😝

I’m going to the grocery store to buy garlic bread, right now. Damn you.

Full disclosure...I don't think I've ever made a bed...OK, maybe a few times...

I've eaten garlic bread many times though...Go get some, you deserve it. 😈 😉
