I do not think there is ice on the lake at all here yet.
The lakes are not completely frozen over here either, maybe some smaller ones might be. When there are not even any ice fishers out, then you know it's definitely not safe to go on the ice.
I think in the spring it is a popular suicide method as it looks like an accident.

About as close to ice I get here is in my G&T 😂...Although I eat ice cream so that probably counts too!
