Sight seeing in Boston

Hi fellow Steemians/ history buffs,

One of the cool things about living in Boston is there’s so much history to be found all over the place. It’s even better when you’ve got kids who have never seen the things. We took advantage of the beautiful weather today and did some sight seeing of historical stuff in Boston.

We saw the USS Constitution and the USS Cassin Young. The constitution was a revolutionary war era ship and the the Cassin was a World War II ship.

Inside the constitution was an awesome look at how people lived on the ship at the time. I was amazed that people were a good deal shorter than they are today, the decks below like the sleeping quarters are tiny! I was crouched the whole time.

The quarters above are officers and it’s remarkable how small they were compared to what we are used to today. I can certainly appreciate what I feel is a small room but in reality is a hell of a lot bigger than these things!

There was some awesome engravings on the cannons and the different parts of the boat like this one on the railing.

It was also cool to see some of the machinery that used to be there before the decline of industry in America. The Charlestown Navy Yard was a huge economic bonus for the city of Boston at its time.

It’s fun to be a tourist in your own city. There’s so many things to see in lots of cities around the country but I’m enjoying the different historical things that are easily accessible here in Boston. We’ve got a few more things on the schedule in the coming weeks so I’ll try to post up some more!

Wouldn't it be great to stay for a night on that ship @cmplxty? :)

I think it would be awesome to spend a night on each of them. The ship that’s hundreds of years old (might have some ghosts in it too!) would be interesting to try but so wouldn’t the World War II ship. I didn’t take many photos of that one but I should have. That boat was just as cool to me!
