A part of my spirit walks forever on this beach

He stands barefoot in the sand and lets the tide come up around him. RIP Olen Nash.

This is the beach in front of my parents' house in Haines, Alaska. So many memories from this beach.

Looking through the pictures from my 2018 Alaska trip to include in yesterday's music video post, I realized I had a ton of pictures I never posted anywhere.

Our first night in town my wife and kids had fallen asleep by 9pm after a long day of traveling, and my parents were going to bed.

I took a long stroll in the Alaskan evening by myself. It stays light out very late that high north in the summer, although not 24 hour day like above the arctic circle. In Haines in midsummer there is a gentle twilight glow from behind the mountains late into the night.

I walked down the hill to the beach, pausing to take a picture of the fireweed.

You can track the progression of summer by watching the fireweed bloom - when the last flowers have opened at the tip, summer is almost over.

This fireweed tells us there is still more summer weather to come. The calendar said it was August 7th.

This beach always recharges my soul batteries, I hope it has the same effect on you.

The top three photos look so amazing I thought they were paintings. I’m sorry for your loss.

Thanks. They do have a painterly quality to them, it is the extremely soft light glowing from behind the mountains I think.

Olen was a cousin of mine who lived in same town, a year older than me. He drowned when fishing boat capsized. Looking through these pictures I was reminded of a night we drank down on the beach and he stood still for hours while the tide came up around him to his neck.

Very interesting place.
Native lands always act beneficially on our soul.
I also love to photograph fireweed

Those landscapes are evocative and powerful, and it was a very nice tribute post, as well. It looks not so different from the coast here in western Washington. Sorry for your loss.

Yeah southeast Alaska is a lot like western Washington. Very similar climate as well.

oh the pictures are so moody and that rock on top of a boulder at the end, it almost look like a rusty spaceship...
