Suspect 4: Crassula Ovata

a.k.a. jade plant, lucky plant, money plant or money tree

Red-tinged leaves

After learning that the common name for this plant was Jade, I was a bit confused because when I was younger (so much younger than today), my parents owned a really large, potted Jade that sat on our back patio for years... however, it looked nothing like the new one and I could easily tell that they were two, very different plants.

Although, with a little research, I discovered that the Crassula Ovata is the true Jade while the plant I'd grown-up with, was in fact, a Dwarf Jade or Portulacaria afra

Crassula Ovata (Jade Plant)

The Crassula Ovata is a well-known houseplant, gaining popularity due to it's low maintenance and it's ability to survive in most conditions, indoors and outdoors.

Unfortunately (for me) the only condition that it definitely won't survive is a winter frost... so, I guess I'll be buying another 'decorative' pot because this will need to be placed into larger pot so that it too, can be brought under-cover during the winter months.

New leaves growing in crossed-pairs

Anyhoo, it was a bit of a bummer to learn this because (like usual) I'd already jumped the gun and considered a permanent spot in the garden... only to find out that it wouldn't have been the best plan after all.

Oh well, ya always gotta look on the bright side... and at least I found this out before any planting started.

Until next time... xxx

PS. I just had to include this one, last photo to show the beautiful texture on the main stem.

Again, until next time... xxx
