These beautiful little seedlings are only weeks old and ones that I've started from seed, well... a seed mat to be exact. The brand is 'Mr Fothergills' however, I'm not sure where I bought them from but it was possibly from one of those bargain|reject|$2 shops.

Sometime ago, I was looking through my seed collection and noticed that some of the packets were damp and had obviously been wet at some point. In particular, this packet of parsley and another of thyme (also seed mats) were still in the original paper packaging and the water had soaked thru.

Usually with seeds, you get a second layer of protection in the form of an inner foil/plastic satchel that contains the seeds. However, with the seed mats, because the seeds are embedded into a cotton-like material there's no need for the no extra layer of protection as they no longer have the problem of needing to contain the seeds.

Most of the thyme seeds had sprouted and I could see that they had already dried out but despite this, I planted them anyway, thinking there might have been one or two seeds that were still viable... BUT after weeks of waiting, they still haven't shown any sign of life and as such, I was really pleased when I noticed the parsley spring to life.

Anyhoo, I guess I should explain why I've presented several photos of what appears to be the 'same' photo 5x ...?

Well, while I was taking photos of the new leaves this morning, I decided to play around with the camera settings, specifically to adjust the shutter speed. This was really just an experiment to demonstrate to myself how different shutter speeds effect the outcome of the image.

  • The first photo (# 1123) was just 'snapped' at the setting that was already held in memory - a lucky shot.
  • The second (# 1124) and third (# 1125) were taken with longer shutter speeds.
  • While the fourth (# 1127) and fifth (# 1128) were taken with quicker speeds.
  • Individual settings are listed below each photo.
  • Minimal PS editing - levels adjusted, tiny nudge in curves and a touch of saturation.

I'm not sure if I can decide on a favourite although I'm definitely leaning towards # 1127 and # 1128, both taken with fast shutter speeds. (# 1127 has nice sharp details and # 1128 has a lot of warmth)

What do you think?
Which image do you prefer?

Next item on the agenda? I'd really like to try taking a series of 'time-lapse' styled photos as the seedlings grow, however I'm not sure I have a safe, dog-free area in my home where the tripod isn't at risk of being knocked over. Which just means, I can't guarantee the safety of the puppaccinos, the camera OR my sanity... ?!?

haha jk, I'm sure I'll work something out :)

Until next time... xxx

Be safe and take care... ❤️❤️❤️

Plants are so amazing, sometimes they are more resilient than you think!

Yes, so true... one thing I love about plants is that you only need to provide the right environment and it's like they just WANT to grow.

PS. How are you? I hadn't seen you in Discord lately so just hoping all is well :)
