Filigree Art

Hello. In the post I made today, I shared authentic looking coffee cups. And I said that I bought them from Midyat and that he was famous there. I also mentioned that there is a Filigree Art specific to Midyat. Since I mentioned only the name of Telkarin there, I felt the need to share about Telkari. For this, I decided to share the pictures of the filigree I have with you.

First of all, I should add an information about Filigree here:

"Filigree is a silver embroidery art that consists of combining fine silver wires.

The same optical effect in filigree, which consists of grains or spheres obtained from a gold or silver wire or plate, with a special tool, can be achieved by knitting 2 or more wires of the same thickness. The knitting of these spheres by welding is called granulation and it was brought to the top level by the Etruscans.

Filigree is a completely hand-made process. For this purpose, the wires are oval, round, etc. shapes are formed and wrapped.

This type of transaction is very old and dates back to 3000 BC. It originated in the Middle East. It has found wide application areas from time to time. It was used in Sicily and Venice between the late 800s and the early 900s in the medieval Baroque period.

Filigree art, which is especially famous in the Mardin region, is also represented with 80 to 120 workshops in Beypazarı, Ankara's district." source

Since filigree is made of gold and silver, it is very valuable financially. However, this value is doubled because it is a completely hand-made work, that is, there is no factory production. Because of this value, it adds financial value to the place where it is performed. I think this work is called art because it is made entirely by hand.

Let's move on to the photos now:

Silver filigree heart bracelet:
(The reason it turns black is because it has been used. It gets grayer with use.)
