Photo52's Warm Theme Entry

This week, the @photo52 Photo Contest theme is "Warm", so I decided to go with a photo that I took years ago when I was first getting into photography and experimenting with different things.

To create this shot, I had a large mirror and rubbing alcohol that I poured onto the mirror and then lit it on fire before each set of shots. I had a really crappy camera and lenses back then, and didn't know anything about using manual focus, so most of the time when I was trying to get the first set of pictures, they were all out of focus while the camera was trying to find something to lock onto.

My wife and I were just talking about redoing this type of shoot now and how we would change things a bit. I am not sure if we still have the mirror in the garage, but if we do, I would set it up lengthwise so that the fire covers more of the frame and I would use manual focus and really lock into the face so the shots would be a lot more crisp. Going over this photo has given me an idea of critiquing my old photos and what it would be like to shoot them now and giving pointers on what I have learned over the years through my schooling and experience as a photographer.
