Where would this season be without it's scary characters? We would we be without our monsters? We'll have to dive in the psyche of the season another time for now we're going to find some of the scariest characters from movies, books or TV. (I think we know why the mentioned TV 😉) This one has been the hardest for me. Growing up the only R rated movies my mom would let me watch was horror movies and she more than willingly took me to them. So I saw movies like The Shining, Monkey Shines, and Amittyville Horror at the theater (or drive-in) when they came out. At the time the only one that 'affected' me was Poltergeist, I guess because the style of the house and neighborhood. Most 'new' housing tracts we very similar. It made it all to relateable to a 13 yr old.

Before we get into the goodies, lets get the business part down. This contest is open to EVERYONE!! In case you didn't get that EVERYONE!! You don't have to participate every month, even though that would be nice. If a topic grabs you jump on in! For the rest of the particulars PHC Top 3 Monthly Contest

Nomination 1 - Jack Torrance

In case you don't know Jack Torrance is the mild mannered teacher and writer who has taken a job with his family to be the caretaker of a hotel for the winter which is very remote. He slowly slips into madness partially due to cabin fever, but there are supernatural forces that do not help matters any. If you haven't seen The Shining I would add it to your holiday play list 😁

Nomination 2 - Jigsaw/Billy the Puppet

Admittedly, I have only seen the first 3 Saw movies and I had to watch them during the day when my husband wasn't home. He does not do horror in any form. At least I have gotten him to like Alien and Predator, only because it's SciFi and not 'horror' LOL. Twisted doesn't even cover this guy. As if using freaky puppet to do your bidding isn't bad enough, this guy has his victims make decisions that WILL impact them for the rest of their lives ... ... however long that may be. Would you hack off your foot to save your life? Would you kill your boyfriend to save yours? What is it about puppets in horror movies?

Nomination 3 - Dolores Umbridge

Oh there is so much to say about her. Oh sure she looks like the lonely cat lady that she is. All bright and cheery with all that Pepto Bismol pink. Why wouldn't she be lovable?? because she is deeply disturbing.I think why I feel she is one of the truly terrifying is because she hits far to close to home. She is the epitome of what is going on all around the world. Those set on an ideal they believe to be just and right. Anyone who thinks one iota differently than her and her peers is wrong and needs to be punished for such. Take away rights, freedoms, life in order to create their prefect world. Never mind the fact that it goes against the 'belief' structure they claim to have. I see her type everyday, they may not all were pink and have their hair done weekly at the hairdresser but you know exactly who they are.

I hate horror movie if there's no comedy in it, eventhough I considered the scarry characters as clown and told myself it's just a fsntasy.
I seldom watch the movies anyway😂 but I watch Harry Potter, The Chronicles of Narnia and Lord of The Rings over and over again!

And.. couldn't agree more with you about Dolores Umbridge, She'sscarrier than the Jack Riddle himself.

LOL it's ok, not everyone likes horror. Not everyone was submersed in it from such a young age either.
But... some of the 'scariest' are in fantasy. With what you mentioned alone, ring wraiths, Sauron, Golem, the orcs, the White Queen and all of her minions, dementors, Voldemort, Dolores. The thing about fantasy is it is usually good vs. evil has more than it's fair share of scary characters.

I agree with you about Dolores Umbridge! One needs to be happy to be able to summon a Patronus, and she did it. She enjoyed being evil.

Good choices @tryskele. I’m not a fan of horror movies with blood and gore.

Jack Nicholson looks ridiculously scary in the Shining but he makes me laugh. It’s hard to take him seriously.

I had to do the 'progression' watching him slip. I admit it I giggled through this. I had way too much fun.

Top choices my friend! Although I don't know about Delores. I searched Google for her and found out she's from Harry Potter? I haven't seen them all and obviously missed the one she's in. But sounds like I'm missing out!

The Shining! Yes! So glad you picked that one. This ranks up there with The Exorcist for me. Just something really terrifying about being stuck in the middle of nowhere and losing your sanity one day at a time. Dolls are always pretty darn scary, too. Doesn't matter how small they are, a big demon can still stare out from those glassy eyes. The last pick is a brilliant one, made even more so with your reasoning. People like that definitely keep me up at night...👻

Thanks @plantstoplanks. One of my thoughts on characters was a doll that I saw when I was a kid at Universal Studios as a kid. It was a prop from movie Trilogy of Terror. It took a while for me to see the movie since it wasn't going to come back to the theater and video had not yet been released to the public. I knew with Dolores I would have to 'explain' her. Yes people like her truly scare me. To see it happening makes it so much worse.

So many popped into my head with this. Through out Jr. High and High school my reading list consisted of Stephen King and any horror I could get my hands on a the time.

What's really scary is that I have had some family members morph into "Dolores" the last few years right before my very eyes. Feels a little like Invasion of the Body Snatchers sometimes...👽😨

Haha... I completely missed the contest, but it's good to see that another character on my list was picked.
Jack Torrance.... Jack Nicholson managed to make the character even more scary in the movie than it was in the book. I absolutely love it!!

I love the shining (film and book). Not familiar with jigsaw or saw (don't do gore and torture horror). Harry Potter had some great scary characters!

Awesome choices @tryskele.

The Shining is a masterpiece and JN leads the way. The way his character descends into chaos is realy scary and the bathroom scene is an icon of horror cinema.

I have never watched Saw but I do like a bit of HP! Dolores Umbridge is an inspired choice.

Best of luck.
