Wuhan Corona Virus Prevention, Part Two...plus some genetic argument I don't rightly understand

(Edited)

Part One, which covers separation and food and water. One addendum - get a grill of some sort and the appropriate fuel for it. DO NOT COOK INDOORS WITHOUT VENTILATION

Today we'll cover personal protective gear, household quarantines, recovery, and decontamination.

The information is coming faster than I have energy to cover fully, so, as always, double-check what I am telling you and add in your own research.

2019-nCoV Global Cases (by Johns Hopkins CSSE):As of Jan 30, 2020 11 am EST

Two notes first

  • There may be good news for white people, and there may not. There is some argument that East Asians are more genetically susceptible to the worst effects of this virus. the only study ONLY covers 8 cases, and only 1 East Asian (beats n=7, tho!).

Single-cell RNA expression profiling of ACE2, the putative receptor of Wuhan 2019-nCov

The result indicates that the ACE2 virus receptor expression is concentrated in a small population of type II alveolar cells (AT2).
A comparison between eight individual samples demonstrated that the Asian male one has an extremely large number of ACE2-expressing cells in the lung.
This study provides a biological background for the epidemic investigation of the 2019-nCov infection disease, and could be informative for future anti-ACE2 therapeutic strategy development.
We also noticed that the only Asian donor (male) has a much higher ACE2-expressing cell ratio than white and African American donors (2.50% vs. 0.47% of all cells).

4chan trolls noted similarity in this regard to SARS and to a lesser extent, swine flu. The CDC study Information on 2009 H1N1 impact by Race and Ethnicity cites higher rates of infection for minorities (although, interestingly enough, lower rates for Asians in those viruses)

This chart lists the ACE frequency:
delete.png
Source - The geographic distribution of the ACE II genotype: A novel finding

However, a different 4chan poster makes this counter-argument:

http://ds.biogps.org/?gene=59272
This is the tissue-specific RNA transcription rate of the ACE2 gene, the one that the Coronavirus binds to in order to enter the cell and start to replicate. This graph doesn't give us any information on the race-specific susceptibilty to viral infection because you have to "breathe in" the virus through cough/sneeze droplets or touching your face after being in contact with a carrier to get sick.
It logically follows that we have to look at the expression of ACE2 gene only in lung tissue to gain more understanding on the subject.
Well, let's do that:
https://www.biorxiv.org/content/10.1101/2020.01.26.919985v1.full
83% of the cells in your lung that express the CE2 gene are type II alveolar cells (AT2), those are the ones in wich the infection usually begins.
The percentage of lung cells that express the ACE2 gene varies among sexes (1.66% M, 0.4% F) and races (2.50% asians, 0.4% Whites and Africans) making asian males the most vulnerable to contracting the virus even with only a brief exposure to it.

So that was your ray of hope, and we'll move onto your blade of grimness.

  • I had planned on adding some discussion regarding the What if it IS a nothingburger question, but I am already fading, so instead i will just reiterate that it is ALWAYS "too early" to act in these situations...until it is "too late"

PPE (personal protective equipment)

  • The disease enters through mouth and nose, so get some kind of breathing filter. Supposedly (and I am not an expert, even though I was an NBC monitor as part of my duties some centuries ago in the Corps), the virus particles are small enough to bypass anything other than a N95 or similar mask.

The ‘N95’ designation means that when subjected to careful testing, the respirator blocks at least 95 percent of very small (0.3 micron) test particles. If properly fitted, the filtration capabilities of N95 respirators exceed those of face masks. However, even a properly fitted N95 respirator does not completely eliminate the risk of illness or death.

I have 3M painting masks I got at Home Depot some time back; I have no idea what their rating is. I may go get some masks I know to be rated after my next check comes in.

FWIW, I went to Home Depot 3 days ago to get body suits, and there was no rush to get supplies. Hopefully, there is no panic buy until I get stuff i know is good...but every little preventive measure helps.

  • Eyeballs. Click, sir! Another mode of infection can be the eyes. I have both goggles and face masks.

These masks come down to mid chin level, and you can wear googles and a breathing filter under them...but they are fairly opaque...maybe at 15-20%. Look for some that cover the face completely, and are a bit clearer, if you can.

One thing they will do is to keep infected folks from coughing in my face.

  • Body suits: I got the painters kind. These should be unnecessary unless you are in contacted with infected people...like if you need to travel in an infected area, or have a household member get sick. You can include painter's booties and duct tape here.

  • Latex/Vinyl Gloves. I would hope this is self-explanatory by this time.

  • Vitamin C. I know you've got multivitamins but the most studies that have shown a immunological benefit from vit c have required supplementation of 1-2g/day which is often far above your all-in-one multivit. You also need to be taking vitamin c before you get sick. Got oranges?
Also see Vitamin C for preventing and treating the common cold

A simple half-face respiratory, safety goggles and frequent handwashing will do just fine for the vast majority of people - yeah, you might want a chemical hazard suit and a full-face mask if you're stacking bodies or working with the sick.

Decontamination

Bleach ( at a 1:30 mix), rubbing alcohol, spray bottles, alcohol wipes.
Below 70% alcohol makes a poor disinfectant.
Plenty of water to spray disinfectant OFF you before you de-suit/de-mask
Wash gloves - wash off water source- take off gloves -disinfect hands AGAIN!

Quarantining in-house

You may need to treat infected family members if things go too far south. SHTFplan.com suggests:

These are the items you’ll want if you and your family stay home and are not ill, and the ones you’ll need if someone does become infected.

  1. Body Suits and N95 Masks (discussed in PPE above)
  2. Thick Plastic Sheeting (common at home improvement stores) and Duct tape or painters’ tape
  3. Simple and easy to clean cot
  4. Strong High Mil Trash Bags
  5. Hydration and Electrolyte Options (sports drinks or others)(see next section)
  6. Immune Booster (pine needle tea, for example)
  7. High-quality disinfectant soap, bleach, and scrubbing tools
  8. Disposable latex gloves
  9. 5-gallon bucket to act as a backup toilet (multiple would be preferred)
  10. Water – in this case, at least 2 gallons of water per person for up to 7 days if possible. More is better.

Should a person get sick, you’ll need to create a “quarantine room” to care for that person while keeping everyone else safe. Designate a room for the quarantine in advance. If the room can have a bathroom or is a bathroom that would be best. It’s a much better area to quarantine someone especially if they are going to be vomiting or having diarrhea. Use your duct tape and plastic sheeting to seal off the opening of the room from the rest of the house.

Recovery

The sick will need lots of water, food, and sleep. Hopefully, somebody with a med backgound can chime in and tell us whether it's good idea to dose the sick with sleep aids.

One thing for certain. There WILL be diarrhea, and it will be CRUCIAL to keep the sick hydrated. Water only just won't cut it (plants crave electrolyes ;> )

Oral Rehydration Solutions (ORS) Source
The "Simple Solution" – Home-made Oral Rehydration Salts (ORS) Recipe

Preparing 1 (one) Litre solution using Salt, Sugar and Water at Home Mix an oral rehydration
solution using the following recipe.
Ingredients:
 Six (6) level teaspoons of Sugar
 Half (1/2) level teaspoon of Salt
 One Litre of clean drinking or boiled water and then cooled - 5 cupfuls (each cup about 200
ml.)

Preparation Method:
 Stir the mixture till the salt and sugar dissolve.
Effective homemade remedy for watery diarrhea
An efficient and effective homemade remedy to be used when watery diarrhea strikes. This is a good
substitute for oral rehydration salts:
Ingredients:
 1/2 to 1 cup precooked baby rice cereal or 1½ tablespoons of granulated sugar
 2 cups of water
 1/2 tsp. salt

Instructions:
Mix well the rice cereal (or sugar), water, and salt together until the mixture thickens but is not too thick
to drink. Give the mixture often by spoon and offer the child as much as he or she will accept (every
minute if the child will take it). Continue giving the mixture with the goal of replacing the fluid lost: one
cup lost, give a cup. Even if the child is vomiting, the mixture can be offered in small amounts (1-2 tsp.)
every few minutes or so. Banana or other non-sweetened mashed fruit can help provide potassium.
 Continue feeding children when they are sick and to continue breastfeeding if the child is being
breastfed.

Questions on Solutions made at Home
Q. How do I measure the Salt and Sugar? Different countries and different communities use various
methods for measuring the salt and sugar.
 Finger pinch and hand measuring, and the use of local teaspoons can be taught successfully.
 A plastic measuring spoon may be available locally- with proportions to make up 200 ml of
sugar/salt solution.
Whatever method is used, people need to be carefully instructed in how to mix and use the solutions. Do
not use too much salt. If the solution has too much salt the child may refuse to drink it. Also, too much
salt can, in extreme cases, cause convulsions. Too little salt does no harm but is less effective in
preventing dehydration. A rough guide to the amount of salt is that the solution should taste no saltier
than tears.
Q. How much solution do I feed? Feed after every loose bowel movement. Adults and large children
should drink at least 3 quarts or liters of ORS a day until they are well. Each Feeding:
 For a child under the age of two
Between a quarter and a half of a large cup
 For older children
Between a half and a whole large cup
For Severe Dehydration: Drink sips of the ORS (or give the ORS solution to the conscious dehydrated
person) every 5 minutes until urination becomes normal. (It's normal to urinate four or five times a day.)
Q. How do I feed the solution?
 Give it slowly, preferably with a teaspoon.
 If the child vomits it, give it again.
The drink should be given from a cup (feeding bottles are difficult to clean properly). Remember to feed
sips of the liquid slowly.
Q. What if the child vomits? If the child vomits, wait for ten minutes and then begin again. Continue to
try to feed the drink to the child slowly, small sips at a time. The body will retain some of the fluids and
salts needed even though there is vomiting.
Q. For how long do I feed the liquids? Extra liquids should be given until the diarrhea has stopped.
This will usually take between three and five days.
Q. How do I store the ORS solution? Store the liquid in a cool place. Chilling the ORS may help. If the
child still needs ORS after 24 hours, make a fresh solution.10 Things you should know about Rehydrating a child.

  1. Wash your hands with soap and water before preparing solution.
  2. Prepare a solution, in a clean pot, by mixing - Six (6) level teaspoons of sugar and Half (1/2) level
    teaspoon of Salt
    or
  • 1 packet of Oral Rehydration Salts (ORS) 20.5 grams
    mix with
  • One liter of clean drinking or boiled water (after cooled) Stir the mixture till all the contents
    dissolve.
  1. Wash your hands and the baby's hands with soap and water before feeding solution.
  2. Give the sick child as much of the solution as it needs, in small amounts frequently.
  3. Give child alternately other fluids - such as breast milk and juices.
  4. Continue to give solids if child is four months or older.
  5. If the child still needs ORS after 24 hours, make a fresh solution.
  6. ORS does not stop diarrhea. It prevents the body from drying up. The diarrhea will stop by itself.
  7. If child vomits, wait ten minutes and give it ORS again. Usually vomiting will stop.
  8. If diarrhea increases and /or vomiting persists, take child over to a health clinic.
Footnote: People often refer to home-prepared oral rehydration solutions as "home-brew." This should be
discouraged because the word brew implies:
 either fermenting which in fact is an obstacle to some home-prepared solutions especially those
    made with rice-powder
 or it implies boiling (as in tea) which, especially with sugar and salt or using packets of ORS,
should not be done because it decomposes the sugar, or caramelizes.

Other news re: this issue

  • Rumor - more than half the population of Wuhan(5 million) bailed between the time of outbreak and implementation of effective quarantine (unverified).
  • The Chinese government has been running live feeds of the build sites for their two new "hospitals" to deal with this. A poster has claimed that at least one feed is down but only shared this tweet of a fight at one of the sites...https://twitter.com/fiteray/status/1222878704377847808
  • OTOH, It looks like the CCP has throttled back Chinese use of the net to share info
  • The earliest infections were NOT from the wet market (reinforcing my guess this was a bioweapon that got loose from the Wuhan level 4 lab); it is probably not caused from eating bat soup either.

Pretty good advice. Since my water comes in gallon jugs, and a liter's about a quart, my calculations suggest 24 teaspoons of sugar, 2 of salt, per gallon would serve for rehydration solution. However, I ran out of fingers and toes, so my certainty is reduced on the math.

Thanks!

reposting. Good info in here for folks. Especially the electrolyte recipe!! Thanks much!!!!!

IF and I mean IF it turns out the virus is perfect for infecting Asian males........I have to rethink what I think happened that started all this. Surely China was not working on a virus that targets their own population. Especially the males. Unless they determined that social scoring is a failed experiment. I hate to think some country or secret council arranged this on purpose targeting their males. Need a better study on this. Patience. In time we will know more. Thank you for all your hard work.

you are quite welcome ma'am!

about the targeting capability of the virus...(and I'll write this up with details as a post on Saturday)

known facts

  • a Chinese couple was expelled from Canada for stealing coronavirus samples back in July 2019
  • An American scientist (chemistry) was arrested this week (last week?) for selling something to the Chinese
  • a Chinese national was arrested in America (possibly in connection with the arrested American) for classified data theft

unverified fact

the lab in Wuhan is a biodefense lab, NOT a bioweapon lab

two speculations

  • The West developed a targeting virus against the Chinese, who then stold it, and subsequently dropped it in their own laps

-OR-

  • The Chinese developed a targeting virus, but could only work with the genetic material they had on hand. The needed to steal what the West was working on to counter the Chinese development, or to get other-than-Chinese genetic material to work in with what they had already developed. They then subsequently dropped it in their own laps

I am also wondering if they stole something they were meant to steal.

I see your train of thought very clearly. Thank you for such a great reply. You always do a good job laying it out. I personally believe this was an accident as you know from my videos. This new info just stops me from shutting the door on the alternative of intentional release. It does stands to reason they were working on a defense for it and then oops.

this is an interesting take, as well

.....or as one video posted suggested they were working on developing the mother of all viruses so they could develop a vaccine to take down anything that mother nature had to throw at them...in doing so maybe they opted for the virus to specifically target Asians therefore the vaccine developed would work effectively for them.

or that THEY threw at anyone else

shudders either way...
