Les téléspectateurs profiteront de cette journée pour découvrir les châteaux cathares. Les coureurs seront davantage concernés par les nouvelles ascensions au programme du jour : la côte de Montségur en guise d’amuse-gambettes et l’arrivée au Prat d’Albis, après près de 12 km de montée à 6,9 % de pente moyenne. Ce qui fera un total 4 700 mètres de dénivelé positif.

TV viewers will make the best of this day to enjoy and discover the Cathar castles. The riders will be more focused on the new climbs on the day’s course: the Côte de Montségur as an appetiser and the finish at Prat d’Albis, after a 12-km climb at an average of 6.9%. And that will bring the total to 4 700 metres of elevation.

LIMOUX

La renommée de la ville tient pour beaucoup à la blanquette et au plus long carnaval du monde qu’elle organise chaque hiver. En matière de vélo, la cité accueillera pour la troisième fois le départ d’une étape du Tour. En 2012, lors du dernier envol donné ici, c’est déjà vers Foix que se dirigeait l’étape, remportée par Luis León Sánchez sur le modèle qu’il maîtrise le mieux, en exploitant un final en descente.

The reputation of the town was mostly made thanks to its blanquette (dish) and the longest carnaval in the world organised each winter. In terms of cycling, the city will welcome a stage of the Tour for the third time. In 2012, on the occasion of the last start in Limoux it was already towards Foix that the riders were heading. On that day, Luis León Sánchez made the best of one of his greatest qualities, enjoying the descent on his way to victory.

FOIX

Les deux premières arrivées d’étapes du Tour jugées à Foix ont souri à des audacieux qui ont fait le pari de l’échappée, à savoir le Norvégien Kurt Asle Arvesen en 2008 et Luis León Sánchez en 2012. Cinq ans plus tard, c’est un 14 Juillet que le Tour faisait étape à Foix. Warren Barguil, déjà vêtu depuis plusieurs jours du maillot à pois, remportait sa première étape au terme d’un sprint royal face à Nairo Quintana, Alberto Contador et Mikel Landa.

The first two stage finishes of the Tour decided in Foix rewarded audacious men who were part of a breakaway: Norway’s Kurt Asle Arvesen in 2008 and Luis León Sánchez in 2012. Five years later, the Tour went to Foix on the 14th of July, French National day. Warren Barguil who had already been wearing the polka-dot jersey for several days claimed his first Tour victory after beating the likes Nairo Quintana, Alberto Contador and Mikel Landa in a final royal sprint.
