This one has been a long time coming as it has now been over a month since the family went on our adventurous road trip through the Southeast of the United States. It was really my first experience on a drive longer than a handful of hours so I had no idea what to expect. However, some of our prior decisions came in positively for this trip. For example, our upgrade to a bigger truck to drive made the drive very comfortable and safe for the roads we confronted.

It took us a whole day to actually get even close to leaving Florida which we did not as we decided to stay in Tallahassee for the night. However, no before making some stops in Orlando and Gainesville first. It made me reflect as our stops were at College towns which made me think that I am only years away to seeing my daughter away to College. The next morning, we finally got into our first State, Alabama!

While the route was not the most scenic, we had some great stops along the way for some Southern warmth. Tough to pick the best stop but the first one I enjoyed was a local farm for fruits and their byproducts. After buying some fresh fruits for the way we past some great town along the way. We timed the route pretty well as we got to Montgomery at the end of lunch. We had the most delicious chicken based lunch we have ever had. The sauce was very good and memorable.

After leaving our home State in the morning and driving through Alabama, we arrived at our target for the night, Tennessee. The city we picked to stay was Nashville given all we had heard about it. While most of the nightlife remained in lockdown, the activity had started to gain some steam so we were able to walk around the town with some spectacular views and sights. Country music was loud but great as the town definitely has its rhythm. It was surely one of the highlights our our trip!

After a great night on the town, we headed the next morning to our destination State, Kentucky. Called the Bluegrass State, it was full of great surprises as the green canopies were quite an experience. We passed through yet another College town in Lexington which had some beautiful horse farm to see along the way. We ultimately landed at our destination, Lake Cumberland for some great R & R for week.

We spent the week at our normal activities of work and school but with a great change in environment. The view of the lake was so relaxing and combined very well with my morning coffees. We have always been used to living near the water but there is something different with a lake vs the ocean. I have absolutely loved lakes and this was not any different. It continues to be a long term goal to have something for myself on a lake for the future.

While the trip back was not as glamorous as the one up, the company was the greatest I have ever had as the time with the family is priceless as we reflected on our experience. I think that the family is up for much more of these so it would not be a surprise to me if we do this type of trip more often. The family reminds me every day of our great time and provides thoughts of our next trip across America!
