Perspective…

There is definitely plenty of thoughts, ideas, and opinion today as we continue to gather information to do our diligence about our futures as a community given the potential changes coming fairly soon. However, I always try to gather perspective through these situations which was one of the main reasons I joined the Steem community almost two years ago. Therefore, I believe there is still much more going on that is more important and some of these current issues are just noise in the grand scheme of things.

It is still too soon to gather where we are all land on this but what is clear is that other things should remain top of mind while this all happens. My hometown is back in Puerto Rico and despite having moved years ago, most of my family is still there. In addition, given my over 20 years of living there and starting my career there, I have accumulated some properties there as well. Since the end of 2019, the beautiful island has been subject to literally thousands of earthquakes; most small but some large. This has given the small island of a diminishing population more things to worry about even after suffering from one of the most powerful Hurricanes in 2017.

The past month has been filled with receiving incredible pictures from the island on the damages from the events that have transpired. To consider how resilient the residents have been since rebuilding from Hurricane Maria is inspiring but these earthquakes have impacted most as it is something humans are not built to really prepare for. Given how rarely they happen, it is very difficult to be fully prepared as the experience is always different given variations in time, location, and intensity. To say the least, it has impacted the population in general. Many do not even want to sleep in their houses and have opted to go to others homes far from the impacted area.

So, while we are all feeling the impacts of the “ground shaking” as of late, we should always consider that things can be worst. As humans, we all have the opportunity to adapt and, if capable, take advantage of changes. This is no different as adjustments will be made and the important aspect is the value that community brings to us all. The perspective of the value we provide to this ecosystem is a key aspect of why this has all occurred so we can all sit back and gather the information available to do our own diligence for our futures. In the meantime, let’s consider that there is so much more going on that impacts many lives than just this…
