First Night In The Camper

Hello all you beautiful human beings!

Big shout out for the inspiration of my title today from a group my buddy @jackdub created. That's where we conspired to create the Meadows and Makers podcast from an idea to encourage backyard innovators on Steemit. I loved that name because I believe you can live with most of your modern comforts while off grid using current technology.

Tonight is a pretty big deal for me personally as this was just a dream in my head for the longest time. Now I have brought the dream into reality, and am closer to living life resiliently more on my own terms.

I loaded up the truck this evening after picking up more supplies I needed in town this morning. It took me a bit longer than I expected to get everything in order to be towed down. I've learned the hard way to check, and re check everything before I haul the trailer.

There have been a couple times in the past that lead to a trailer almost flipping in the air while traveling down the interstate.

I had quite the load in the bed and the trailer this time, but she hauled just fine down to the land. Now I just need to get everything positioned to properly catch the sun and create an anchor so I can lock everything down while it sits on the property.

Here's the crappy sketch again with the vision for phase 1 of the property development.

Tomorrow is going to be a big day getting some poles in the ground for my gates and hopefully set in some concrete to chain in the trailer and camper.

Stay tuned!

I just hit 900 followers and it's such a special time for me today.

##Thank y'all so much for following along my journey.

If you know anyone that may be interested in what I'm up to please share and spread the word. I would like to plan a homestead livestream Q n A session for my next goal of 1000 followers.

The term "ungrip" by @wwf has taken on more meaning to me as I work more on this dream. Don't let yourself get distracted by the fear mongers and Nay Sayers. Dream big dreams, and take action to move toward them today!

Yours in liberty toward a brighter future,
Greg Doud @makinstuff

Nice work! How big of a spot are you working with here? Self sustainability is an admirable goal and I wish you all the best. I do know this approach is a helluva task but the rewards and satisfaction are second to none. You have groundwater there I take it?

Thank you my brother, it's a 4.5 acre piece of land that goes down a valley and butt up to a 40acre tract owned by a timber company. There was a well here in the past. I may be able to resurrect it with a little effort. It is going to be a long road to live 100% off the land, but I ain't never been a city type, and love being in the woods working with my hands. The big vision is to make this place a permaculture farm and micro factory wher I can also host visitors that would like to learn skills for self sufficiency.

You'll get there, I did years of life in the woods in California, though the goal wasn't to be self reliant I did live with well water, solar power, and as little generator gas powered living as possible. I stayed online and my hot-spot Wi-Fi and occasional trips to the city kept me sane. I love being away from the concrete jungle but I also like to have the option to get cleaned up and go eat sushi and listen to jazz or something. It's all about balance and for now I'll have to live vicariously through your endeavours as I'm absolutely a weed growing out of a crack in the pavement. Which is to say I live in a metropolis of 10 million or so people and now instead of escaping to the city to see what humans are up to I run away to the jungle to remember what a natural life can be. A very Thoreau for a day existence 😂

You are one fascinating feller my friend. How did you find yourself on the other side of the planet? Been wanting to travel overseas for so many years I'm making it a mission to accomplish that this year as well. Thank you for the encouragement with my journey.

Gonna take some updated drone footage tomorrow after I get stuff done.

Haha, it's been a wild ride fa sho!

That little hot-spot device and facebook actually facilitated the introduction to my now wife. The timing and circumstances could never be replicated and after a year of messaging and video calls I came for a visit knowing full well I'd likely not be leaving for some time. It's a modern day Disney fairytale I suppose, it's a surreal experience to know that all of my experiences led me to this place and time. I try not to use the destiny word but I'm a fairly firm believer that we have some say in how our lives play out before we materialize. Nothing that I can prove of course just pure intuition. I'm not 100% committed to any ideology however as I'm all too aware we all have a magical ability to evolve and influence the world around us that in actuality is within us.. Coffee talk 😂

Oh and I look forward to seeing the lay of the land drone style..

That's totally wild to meet your wife on the other side of the world through Facebook. It is funny how synchronicity seems to happen when you are working toward becoming your truest self, and following your dreams. I kinda feel the same way about entering/re-entering into reality with a mission. When I was a kid I had some extremely lucid dreams as if I had lived previous lifetimes on the planet. Also some where I was like a spirit being jumping into different realities/dimensions to live as a being from different places in the multiverse.

Truly a beautiful response and addition to this conversation. It will take me sometime to come up with a thoughtful reply. I'm not sure anything more than thank you for being you is required..

I'm off to go tinker with my aqua stuff and to clarify something from yesterday I'm not at all shitting on the south eastern usofa I only meant for my personal journey i felt pushed to get out. But, I didn't force the issue I let things unfold organically. The grass is always greener they say but the truth is the grass is green wherever you give it some tlc. There are wonderful people all over the world and we just gotta get in where we fit in I suppose.

Do you have unlimited data. In Canada most cellular plans have caps.

Yep, I got the unlimited plan, but I think it will throttle me after 10gigs are used. I'm sharing a family plan right now. I found another solution with an unlimited data plan sim no throttling you put into a mobile internet router. It was a recommendation by Will Prowse on his youtube channel.
