Welcome To The New Normal In Portland: Part 2

avatar
(Edited)

In my previous post, we looked at some vandalized government buildings.  The vandalism actually extended a lot further than that.  While these photos are now over a week old, I can't imagine things have changed all that much.  The riots persist according to the news, and the local government seems impotent in any attempts to prevent it [src].  I have very little desire to return to the city and see how things have progressed, but I may return in another week or so if my curiosity gets the best of me.

As before, I don't think these require a lot of commentary, so for the most part I am just posting them for posterity sake.

Everything has changed, and apparently the only way to fix it is by erasing everything.

Light a historical elk statue on fire, get a wicket looking replacement. There used to be a huge Elk statue sitting in this spot atop a large fountain. Both were removed by the city. [src]

This is a monument memorializing fallen Oregonian soldiers of the Spanish-American War, not even it was immune from defacement.

Many buildings such as this one and in the next photo were completely closed and gated off.

The Scientologists did an impeccable job of boarding up their windows!

Thanks for visiting.  So what do you think, is Portland a place you'd like to visit any time soon?

Kind of sad to see the state of Gotham, but the Church of Scientology all boarded up was a nice little consolation.

Bandalism has been unleashed there, a lot of my friend, I see how in your photos you can see the damage to the material, if that is not to blame for what happens, I have never agreed with that of damaging the things that venerate the people greetings brother

Thanks for dropping by. I don't think destroying your own city is ever the answer.

This is sad to watch, Josh. I haven’t been to Portland in a few years, but I always enjoyed my visit. It is an educated city. I have a friend who is a faculty at the downtown campus at the department of geology . I should give him a call....

I suspect they have not been in the office for some time, but I could be wrong.

The last one struck a chord, having being roped into Scientology for a few months in the 90's.., couldn't have happened to a nicer lot of blokes hehe...

This is almost UX, you are getting there!

Portland is becoming a ruin, maybe in a few more visits.

Starting to feel like this cowardly vandalism is making black lives matter less and less each day. To inspire others to destroy and hurt others has disproportionately disrupted many in the black community (residents, business owners, and workers). Soon there will be no choice but to pass a bond or tax (back to slavery, indentured servitude). Poverty black citizenry are very vulnerable to measures like this, all to placate to protest demands and eventually fix the destruction mess. Hardly seems like justice. Only thing that annoys drivers more than protests is construction areas blocking off most of the city streets.

Whoever rises up as the black leaders capable of changing the violence into peace and friendship is going to be a national hero.

This type of thing will gain you less sympathy for you movement than you could otherwise have obtained peacefully. Thanks for your input.

No. Actually I'm amazed about how things evolve over there. Vandalising everything is never a good solution as citizens will pay the bill. This needs to stop asap.
I hope you are safe.
