The hyper-tokenisation of STEEM

avatar
(Edited)

New-STEEM has lots of tokens. Nowadays, it is possible to earn 5 or 6 different tokens on a single post. Here is a look at the prospects of a few different tribes formed on STEEM, and the investment potential that I see in each. These are just my personal opinions, and not financial advice - do your own research.

STEEMLEO

leo.JPG

STEEMLEO has just recently launched - you can find its website here. In it's launch post, the founder outlined this vision for the community:

We’ve created Steemleo for all of the passionate investors across the globe who want to talk about all things investing. Whether you want to build a personal brand around your investing strategies, discuss your philosophies or even make videos about your journey, Steemleo aims to connect passionate investors through a next-generation social media platform that is powered by the Steem Engine smart contract ecosystem and all of the amazing SCOT tools they have created and will continue to create in the future.

At it's current market price around $0.03, my impression is that this token is undervalued. This price gives it a market cap on Steem Engine of $126,758. I feel this price is low, and that the potential of this community is a lot higher. The targeted niche it is looking for will be a popular one in the crypto community, and LEO has the potential to bring new investors in to STEEM. The price is most likely artificially low as a result of people dumping the airdrop tokens.

I strongly believe that the price of LEO will climb once the free token sell-off from recipients of the airdrop eases the current downward pressure on prices.

Rating from me:

  • Short Term - BUY. Sell off should ease soon and accumulators will start buying.
  • Long Term - BUY. Good long term potential, interesting possibilities for this niche.

PALNET

pal.JPG

The biggest Tribe on the Block, PALNET is the tokenisation of the Minnow Support Project, one of the oldest and largest STEEM/discord communities with the aim of spreading "Peace, Abundance and Liberty" (hence PAL.) A general purpose community, not so much targeting any specific topic so much as ideals and principles. From their website, we see that...

The Minnow Support Project is a Witness initiative designed to form a community around new Steemit users to help them grow, find support, and as an avenue toward financial success.

The strength of this project lies in the distribution of PAL. Initial launch was by claimdrop, targeted to the broad STEEM userbase that have participated in the MSP discord server. A cap was included, to level the playing field a bit. This process has resulted in a large spread of the token, and it is mainly held in my opinion by active, engaged Steemians. The tokens are prices around $0.138 and the current market cap is just over $2 million. There are also Passive investment options by buying mining tokens, that distribute PALcoins periodically.

This is the most well rounded, and general purpose tribe token with the biggest community already in place.

  • Short Term - Buy. Steady upside since initial claimdrop has ended, so selling pressure should ease.
  • Long Term - Strong Buy. I see the long term prospects as being excellent, and this will be one of the largest and most successful tribes on STEEM.

SPORTSTALK

sports.JPG

A personal favourite of mine, Sportstalks primary topic is fairly obvious. Come talk about Sport and earn crypto... What is not to like about that. Having said that, the project had a few teething issues upon launch, and the token economics are a bit out of wack at the moment.
The founder, @patrickulrich had this to say when he launched the project:

I'm happy to announce SportsTalk.social! #sportstalk is the new home for all conversations related to the sporting world. You may be a huge fan of the #NBA and want to talk about USAvsCanada or maybe you prefer to spend your summer months watching #MLB to look for the dingers. Regardless of your favorite pastime you'll be welcomed here to discuss all of your favorite sports moments!

It is such a great broad topic that most people love to get involved in conversations about. I can foresee many uses down the track for the token, I just wish I had the skills to build out those use cases (a tipping competition site, fantasy leagues, even sportsbetting using the SPORT token). Having said that, currently due to the initial issues experiences, the token is overpriced in my opinion. The price is $0.00144 but due to the number of tokens, this equates to a market cap over $143 million. is this project worth 71 times PALNET, or the same as STEEM itself - you be the judge.

  • Short Term - Sell/Accumulate, price is high but token payouts are also high, choice depends on personal goals. At present, I personally am selling half of my post payouts, and staking the other half. Definitely not buying at the moment.
  • Long Term - Accumulate. A good token to earn rather than buy until a big price correction comes along.

Just my opinion, do your own research.

Splintertalk, Weedcash

Both are niche tokens issued for getting involved in conversations related to specific topics. Splintertalk is for all things Steemmonsters (rebranding to Splinterlands). Weedcash, as its name suggests is for chating about Weed.

These are both tokens aimed at their specific communities, and I would not really consider them as investment options unless these are your interests.

Only really for those interested in my opinion.

There are other tribes I have not covered, and no doubt more to come. In addition, there are other tokens available on STEEM, like AFIT, HUNT, DLIKE and others. And with SMT development actually progressing, and finally looking like it will happen sooner rather then later, the future looks to be filled with an abundance of tokens, all on the STEEM blockchain.

How many different tokens do you have? Which are your favourites?

Remember, none of this is financial advice, just my personal thoughts. Do your own research.

Thanks for reading, have a great day.

John.

Yes, its fun times on #newsteem at the moment, so much going on and so much more to come. I can't wait to see an external community migrate itself on to STEEM, that will be a big day.

Thanks mate, the last 2 are really specific for their communities. There are others as well that I didn't cover at all, these are just the ones I am most familiar with.

Thanks for your comments.

Yeah, something like that, although research and a degree of caution should be exercised. Still plenty of risk in these developments that people don't pay enough attention to. (its all dependant on Steem Engine) To play around with, accumulate a bit hell yeah, for a serious investor, proper analysis with a SWOT should be done. A buying frenzy usually doesn't end well in my opinion.

Pal is the big one to accumulate i think. I'd guess other new tribes launching will follow loe's example and airdrop on PAL holders.

I'm aware of the 50/50 curation here at sportstalksocial.

However, I would like to find out (somewhere) the curation of all the other SCOT sites. If you have a link, that would be awesome!

Great post btw!!

I think all of these so far have launched with 50/50. Haven't got a link, sorry but pretty sure that's the case.

Glad you liked it.

Thanks @Jk6276 !!
That's kinda how I was looking at it too (since steemit is going to 50/50 as well).

Very nice summary, It's so cool to go on steemengine and see all the tokens accumulating over the last week. Now that more folks will be staking them the upvotes should get better having your regular followers more involved!

Glad you liked it. It certainly is fun to see the tokens flowing in, and as the distribution spreads out, more people get a chance to vote.

These new platforms, connected to Steemit, are really amazing! I love that Steemians are getting more and more possibilities to tokenise their content. Nice post!

We certainly do have more options than ever here on STEEM, it is getting hard to keep up.

The hypertokenisation of Steem is truly exciting and to be honest quite hard to keep up with all of the new platforms coming out but nevertheless the developments are rather exciting and more than welcomed.

Seems like you make very well-thought out content and that you deserve to be on my autovoter list.

Keep #Steemin' and #SteemSportsTalkin' dude!

Yes, its requiring some time to keep on top of it all, but definitely worth it.

I appreciate the support, my content is sometimes this style of post, but mainly less detailed. Always with my personal thoughts and content however.

An impressive summary of the most popular platforms on Steem blockchain! This is definitely a great opportunity for all of us. What you are passionate about and love to talk, you can do that on a specific platform. If it's game, you can talk about it on Splintertalk and battlegames.

If you love sports and want to talk about it, SportsTalkSocial is here. Thank you @jk6276 for sharing your thoughts about these platforms.

Hey! I'm getting into this about Steem's tokenization. I have more than a year and a half in Steem but I was not in this move of the Steem Engine yet. Here's the question: Could I use your publication as an example to make a similar one to Spanish? I have a lot I want to do, greetings.

Hola, I would be delighted for you to use my post, provided it is linked as the source.

I would think a tribe for Spanish speakers would be likely to come along soon.

Great work here, and I wish I'd read it at the start of the day.

Bit worried now but what the hell, you only live once!

At the end of the day, a token is worth whatever someone is willing to pay. I've focused on marketcap, but many other factors are in play also. There are benefits in the long run to being early to the long run, plus being a big fish in a small pond is more fun than going unnoticed in a big pond.

I may be wrong, the price is still going up.

That is true, I felt it worth a gamble today and do feel at home talking about sport. Many of the followers of my main account couldn't care less about Football, and here I can moan about the collapse of Man United and not worry about it :)

The price must come down though surely - the market cap is rather ridiculous on its own and when compared to similar projects. I guess I'll have to buy a few more, especially if the price goes close to the .00009 you mentioned, or was it .000009 :D

Maybe it won't go that far down, I'm not great at reading the lows. Was lucky to be here right from the start. Im still selling 1/2 my payouts and staking the rest, so my token count grows, but my influence on payouts will drop back over time.

On another topic, what would be the best way to go about setting up a fairly automated tipping comp here? I have no skills, but would love to get something up and running as a use case for SPORTS. I spoke with the dpoll team about multiple questions on one post (each game of a round) but that's not feasible from their end at the moment.
