Pour One Out for 2019, Cheers to 2020

avatar

As 2019 comes to a close, I want to note the events of the year that make it feel like a year very well spent.

  • I moved back to where my mother and some other family members live and am getting used to enjoying "family time" for the first time since I left at 16. (Only now I have a car and my own house... much better.)
  • I have accepted an offer on my property in Taos, so am now able to focus 100% forward and not have energy tied up someplace I know I no longer want to live
  • I internally adjusted more to the idea of being retired. Only now I call it being a fiction writer. That gives me permission to pretty much just enjoy the passage of each day, while being counted as a productive member of society.
  • I planned out my trip to Europe for next Summer.
  • I hosted a few traveling friends
  • I learned to trade options
  • I got more clarity on my crypto plans
  • I got a Roth IRA going for some of my crypto
  • I got effective chiropractic treatment and finally say my upper back pain decreasing, where it had been increasing for years

That pretty much sums up the year. As for the decade, well I'm glad to be out of the teen years of the 21st Century.

The decade saw me:

  • Start a successful business I could run from my living room
  • Transition into passive income so that I could retire from that business after just a few years
  • Invest with good timing, resulting in gains that gave me additional options moving forward
  • Attain a norm of being peaceful, centered, and positive minded after dealing with PTSD from 9/11 in NYC for many years
  • Adopt my beloved canine companion

That's all I can think of right now, but in general I did a lot of inner growth in the last decade. Even being able to have a successful business was really a product of that inner growth. I had to make peace with the idea that everything could be okay. I had to be willing to let go of a sense of danger and impending loss. Sometimes we get so used to the bad feelings that we block ourselves off to anything that would elicit the good feelings.

As I look forward to the 2020s

I look forward to more travel, more openness to new experience, and more peace within the present moment however it presents itself.

I also look forward to seeing crypto appreciate as an investment and being able to further leverage those gains to be able to do some projects I want to do in Africa. One's a service project and I'm also thinking about a business. I may be able to combine them into a business that's as much for the benefit of the people working in it as for the local clientele it serves.

I don't mind not having a crystal clear vision, since I also don't have the ability to do it right now anyway. When the time comes, I know I'll have the clarity I need to move forward.

How About You?

How was your 2019?

How about the last decade overall?

What are you most looking forward to in this next decade?
