Palnet: How to check your voting power and your PAL vote value

avatar
(Edited)

Each Scot like PAL has their own reward pool and voting power. A vote on a palnet post is a normal STEEM vote operation which is processed by Scotbot. When the voter has staked some token, the vote adds token rshares to the post.

For example, when a voter has 1000 PAL staked, his 100% vote will add 1000 PAL rshares to the post (As the precision for PAL is 0, the token amount is equal to its rshares).

In order to check the size of a vote in PAL, we can check the scot api:
https://scot-api.steem-engine.com/info?token=PAL

A vote can be calculated by:

vote_value = vote_weight / 100 * voting_power / 100 * rshares / pending_rshares * reward_pool

assuming vote_weight and voting_power is 100 %, we get:

vote_value =  rshares / pending_rshares * reward_pool

after entering the current values:

vote_value =  rshares / 2937387* 894 = rshares / 3285.67

When someone stakes 3286 PAL, his 100% vote value is currently worth 1 PAL.

Vote power

The vote power calculation is similar to steem, with the difference that when voting outside palnet, the PAL voting power will not be reduced.

You can check your voting power with a tool by @blockchainstudio:

https://economicstudio.github.io/vp/?a=aggroed&t=PAL

the url parameter are a=<account_name> and t=<token_name>

Downvoting pool

The pal token has a seperate downvoting pool. A downvote consumes 20% of its pool, thus one free downvote per day is available. when downvoting more often, the downvote will have less and less effect. Downvoting removes rshares from a post, when the downvoter has staked PAL token.

Hi @holger80, Thank you for introducing my tool and reward pool!

I also have one question. vote_window_days = -1 means (as far as I guess) no limit, is this right? Or does it mean that the last valid vote time is cashout_window_days - 1?

vote_window_days = -1 means that voting is possible until cashout_window_days is reached. Otherwise, voting is only possible until the post is vote_window_days days old.

Thank you and that's what I guessed. I asked this since one kr SCOT project seems to get it wrong. I'll tell them. Thank you.

Since it might be confusing for some people, it might be better for you to include that explanation on the admin config page.

Thanks for the explanation. I guess we will need to adjust it also.

Must the vote occur on PALnet.io or will SCOT's bot monitor votes from other clients too provided the voter has staked PALCoin?

EDIT: I was wrong. Please see the post under mind.

I believe both the post and vote must happen via palnet.io

No, voting and writing comments can be done from any frontend.
Any post will be shown on planet, as long it has the palnet tag.

Just on Earth? Or will it show up on Mars as well? And how about exoplanets? ;P

I don't have any pal but I was still able to upvote some posts and it counted as a regular steem upvote. I thought it would only count as a "pal" vote, but apparently it works for both. Is this the intended behavior? Just want to make sure before I try to vote further. Thanks!

Yes this is indended. Any post/comment/vote on palnet is also shown on every other steem frontend.

Yeah I get it now 😀. For some reason I was under the impression it only operates with pal tokens. All good 👌

Hi @holger80, is this voting behaviour going to remain unchanged? I'm thinking of those who may as yet have few palcoins compared to SP and may be under the illusion that their vote is a pal-specific vote.

just thinking, one very simple solution may be to add a legend to the pop-up that appears on clicking the vote button, with the voting slider, just to clarify the strength of the vote in steem.

Like steemplus adds the actual voting values in $ as the slider is moved.

I just cast a vote from steempeak on your post, but I can't see any variation on my PAL Power: what's wrong?

Thanks for the info on where we can find various PAL settings and stats.

I see precision is also set to 0. Maybe the double digits on the interface should be removed then, they give the wrong impression that the vote worth is fractional.

Hey Hoggy how would this work if it takes 3286 PAL to give a content creator just 1 PAL?

I thought the steem engine's tokens only work in rounded units? Meaning we can only buy and sell 1 whole token not a fraction of the token (hope i'm wrong here or that this changes soon in the code)

How would anyone under getting dust benefit and help grow palnet if they are not getting > 3K PAL upvotes total?

Maybe this is a question for Aggroe, not sure.

Hi @holger80, vote value calculation seems not quite right. Since there were many updates since this post, could you check it again, especially when there is mining too?
