Los viajes, aunque cortos, siempre son buenos tanto para la salud física como la mental, y más aún cuando se hacen recorriendo una naturaleza tan hermosa como la nuestra.
Hoy les contaré acerca de Caripe.

CARIPE significa río de ardillas, en lengua indígena. En su cercanía se encuentra La cueva del Guácharo con abundante flora y fauna que le brindan belleza al pueblo. Nos presenta un rico clima montañoso, con aroma fresco y espectacular temperatura para quien ama el frío. Por tal razón es llamado, con justicia, el jardín de Oriente . La distancia desde la capital del país (Caracas) hasta Maturín estado donde está ubicado, es de 554 Km (acceso por carretera).

Exhibe unas hermosas formaciones naturales como Cerro negro, Cueva Clara, entre otros. También podemos encontrar Monumentos naturales como El Alejandro Humboldt ubicado en el parque Nacional Cueva del Guácharo. El primer monumento natural decretado en el país. Es la caverna natural más grande de Venezuela y entre las más importantes del mundo. Tiene una extención de 10,2 km. La única entrada conocida está a 1.065 mts de altitud, con una gran boca de 23 m de alto por 28 m de ancho. A los turistas solo se les permite entrar hasta unos 1500 m en compañía de un guía turístico.

CARIPE means river of squirrels, in indigenous language. In its vicinity is the cave of Guácharo with abundant flora and fauna that bring beauty to the town. It presents a rich mountainous climate, with fresh aroma and spectacular temperature for those who love cold weather. For this reason it is called, with justice, the garden of the East. The distance from the capital of the country (Caracas) to Maturin state where it is located, is 554 km (access by road).

It exhibits some beautiful natural formations such as Cerro Negro, Cueva Clara, among others. We can also find natural monuments such as El Alejandro Humboldt located in the Cueva del Guácharo National Park. The first natural monument decreed in the country. It is the largest natural cavern in Venezuela and among the most important in the world. It has an extension of 10.2 km. The only known entrance is 1,065 meters high, with a large mouth 23 m high by 28 m wide. Tourists are only allowed to enter up to 1500 m in the company of a tour guide.

Adentro de la cueva

Antes de entrar, te debes poner una botas especiales, porque dentro te encuentras con mucha caca (pupú) de pájaro y por supuesto, tus zapatos quedarían para la historia. Cuando entras, lo primero que sientes es un olor peculiar a humedad y cuando ves hacia arriba notas unas formaciones puntiagudas que cuelgan. Estas son llamadas estalactitas. Llevan milenios formándose y se encuentran a lo largo de la cueva. Cabe destacar que no te permiten usar la cámara dentro de la cueva a causa de los Guácharos, que por el uso del flash, podrían asustarse y provocar una huida en bandada de pájaros. Los Guácharos, son una aves de hábitos nocturnos y que tienen un canto asombroso (Es impresionante verlas salir de noche y regresar en la mañana haciendo un ruido ensordecedor).

Inside the cave

Before entering, you must put on special boots, because inside you find yourself with a lot of bird poop (pupú) and of course, your shoes would be for history. When you enter, the first thing you feel is a peculiar smell of moisture and when you look up you notice some pointed, hanging formations. These are called stalactites. They have been forming millennia and are found throughout the cave. Note that they do not allow you to use the camera inside the cave because of the Guácharos, which by the use of the flash, could be frightened and cause a flight in a flock of birds. The Guácharos, are nocturnal birds and have an amazing song (It is impressive to see them go out at night and return in the morning making a deafening noise).
