Review of PALnet After One Week of Use

ROCKABYE.PNG

Hi Friends!

It’s been a little over a week since I started using PALnet on all of my posts, and so I thought I’d share my thoughts on the new platform. I’ve been keeping note of the questions that came up for me this week so that I could share those with you in case you had similar questions.

Overall First Impressions

Before digging into the various aspects of the site - here’s a little tidbit on why I think using PALnet is so fun. Because someone with a lot of Steem, doesn’t necessarily mean they have a lot of PALcoin (and visa versa) you could have vastly different earnings between the platforms. A post that earned a dollar on Steem, could have earned 10 PAL because a large PALcoin holder noticed the post.

This really helps to gamify things and gives content creators a more diverse income stream. It’s honestly so fun to check both platforms to see how your post is doing!! Because a lot of people are still learning about PALnet - now is a great time to start using the platform and get noticed by curators on PAL.

Curation Potential

Speaking of curation - I think this is worth mentioning. I have heard more and more people say that they are specifically looking for posts using the #palnet tag so that they can earn additional income through curation rewards of PALcoin. Especially since the curation and author split are 50/50 on PAL.

I honestly think it seems like a no brainer to start using PAL alongside your favorite Steem UI because you are giving your content more opportunity to be noticed, and are broadening your income potential - all just adding a tag to your post!

Usability and Ease of Onboarding

For anyone who is accustomed to using the Steemit Platform - getting used to navigating PALnet will be a total piece of cake. It looks pretty much identical to Steemit with a few tweaks here and there. Only posts with the tag #palnet will show up on the site, and so the trending page and your feed will look a bit different. There is also easy navigation to Steem-Engine and a few other slight changes.

Branding Strength

I really like the colors, branding and logos they have developed for this site. The phrase “Peace, Abundance and Liberty” is a value set that resonates deeply with a lot of people - especially those attracted to the values blockchain technology represent.

I also like the gradient blue colors on the PAL logo as it looks more modern and visually appealing than the Steemit logo. (Not that it’s a competition - but just pointing out that I think Steemit would do good with a major logo overhaul.)

That being said - I think the combination of PAL logos are a little confusing and not all that compatible looking together. I really like the modern "PAL" but the swirly logo with words no one really understands is kind of confusing. You know the old saying:

The clearest, not the cleverest, marketer wins.

On a side note - I would actually like to know what this phrase means!

My main Questions and Observations

As I said in the beginning, I kept note of all the questions I had while using the platform this last week so I could address them in this post and hopefully help some of you guys out!

I have a post worth 13 Steem and only 1 PAL… does that just mean the people who voted for my post don’t hold any PALcoin?

Yes… you will notice that if you click on the votes - it will display a different order of names. It is always listed in descending order of the top voters down. The lists may look completely different between platforms. You may also find the reverse - where a post is worth a dollar on Steem, but 10 PAL! This is part of what makes it so fun.

Where can I find more stat’s on who voted my post with PAL?

I’m actually not sure about this one and am hoping a team member can chime in. I love that on Steem we have so many third-party tools such as SteemWorld or UI’s like @steempeak that display more detailed information on your account. If something like this exists for PALnet, then I haven’t run across it yet. I imagine as PAL grows in popularity and daily users - we will see more third-party tools pop up.

Can I add the #palnet tag after the post has gone live and still have it show up on PAL? Or does it need to be tagged that way from the start?

Yes, you can! I forgot to add the tag to one of my posts and was super bummed for a second, because I thought that meant it was too late. Luckily - I edited the post, added the tag and it popped right up!

Can I use the PALnet tag on other Steem based dApps such as Dtube, Actifit, Appics, etc.?

Yes! I’ve started added the PALnet tag to everything I do on the Steem blockchain, regardless of what dApp or UI I’m using.

Why does the amount of PAL earned on my post seem to fluctuate so much?

I’ve actually noticed it stabilizing more the last few days, but at first I would noticed some pretty big swings in the amount of PAL on my post. At first I thought maybe people were downvoting me? Thankfully, I think it was just the fluctuation of the PALcoin price. Steem has been pretty stubbornly placed around .40 for what feels like ages - so we aren’t used to seeing fluctuation of our Steem earnings anymore - but it is totally normal. The price of the post will change depending on the coin value at the time .

Can I just vote with my PAL or Steem… or do votes automatically reflect on both platforms?

The votes are exact mirrors between platforms. So if I’m cruising on PALnet and give someone a 100% vote, it will also give them a 100% vote in Steem. Keep that in mind when curating content. PALnet does have a vote slider just like Steem, and so you should be able to continue your usual curation habits. If you want to vote on posts that have the #palnet tag to increase your curation rewards between platforms - the easiest way to do that is just to jump on palnet.io and curate there!

Have you Gotten Your PALcoin Claimdrop Yet?

I think there is still a week or so left! PALnet offered a claim drop to a large list of steemians that is just sitting there waiting for you to claim! The amount is based on the amount of Steem you hold - but with a cap.

I did a video tutorial last week on how to claim your PALcoin that you can check out - HERE.

Closing Thoughts

I hope some of you found this helpful and it helped clear a few things up for you! I’m a huge fan of PALnet and am excited to continue using it on all of my posts. Like I said above, it is super easy because you just need to add a simple tag and it can not only increase your rewards - but your visibility as well. Not to mention it’s fun to check both to see how your posts are doing!

Great job to @steem-engine, @yabapmatt, @aggroed and team for bringing this to life! I think it’s pretty darn cool.

XO,Lea

LEA, I am so Excited about Palnet. I jumped right on as soon as the Drop Tokens were Available. Yesterday I Hung out in DISCORD with @aggroed and @isaria a MOD for Palnet and I immediately had the LIGHT BULB Come On. That Light Bulb Moment was That there is Going to Be a LOT LESS PAL Tokens than STEEM Created and I can See HUGE UPside for the Price of PAL Token Vs. STEEM........@aggroed makes this well Known and not at All a Big Secret. Got PAL ?? @coruscate

I totally agree with this, very addicting.

I really like the modern "PAL" but the swirly logo with words no one really understands is kind of confusing. On a side note - I would actually like to know what this phrase means!

NON NOCERE, NON ACCIPIES STERCORE
Is Latin for :
“Do no harm, Do not take shit”

—-

By the way...

I made a video yesterday about how excited I am to start earning PALcoin alongside with Steem power and SBD. I wonder how long it will be until each one of our five tags is a different platform that allows us to earn a currency for each one. That’s going to be so nice. I’m loving how active the curation has been thus far.

Our motto for the last 2 years in the Palnet Discord has been "Do no harm, take no shit". Ausbitbank had the idea to put that phrase in latin in the logo....I guess since having the English word "shit" on a logo would be.....odd. lol
Glad you are using the tag!

hahah that's a great point. Having "shit" in an official logo would put some people off. Thanks for explaining! That's an awesome slogan. :)

Hi did you hear about www.steemcounpan.com ? This is something like palnet but crypto related with the sct coin that is priced higher then steem with a payout of 1000sct and a payout time of 3 days. Oh it's written in Korean. But this is something palnet also could go to. So a 800 dollar payout is doable there. Look at the trending page.

Palnet is so cool - it encouraged me to participate on the blockchain as a content creator again.

I liked your breakdown. I already knows a lot of it, but reading it in an organized fashion helped me solidify my knowledge.

Great job @yabapmatt and @aggroed ! I just found out about palnet 2 days ago and I posted 2 posts, commented and upvoted a lot , but barely made anything , 0.05 cents on my latest post on palnet today, 0.09 cents on one and I think 0.26 cents on one that made over $12.00 on steemit, lol .😂 I see you do really good though so im happy for you wow 61.00 Pal thats awesome! So im not sure yet if I like the site so much but I will continue to use the tag and post occasionally as I Did stake the 310 PAL Given to me but will wait before I buy to see if it gets any better, I have not even earned any PAL Coins so other then staked Im at 0 , lol!! Im sure you will do awesome though @coruscate your off to a great start!! 👍👍👍🙋❤
upped and resteemed
I would also like to know what that logo means!? I like the other one much better as well!!

Hi Karen!! So I found out that the logo means "Do no harm, take no shit". They decided to put it in latin because having the word "shit" on a logo isn't the best idea. haha

Maybe keep trying the #palnet tag for a while to see how it goes? The nice thing is that it doesn't cost you anything to do so in terms of changing your rewards on steem etc. It took a while for curators to notice my secondary account @shinebright - but I often see between .75-2 PAL on there and occasionally it will get curated for more. Even those smaller amounts might (hopefully) add up to more value one day.

Either way best of my luck my friend!! I thought of you this weekend because I was in Kamloops for my grandma's birthday and we drove past a kelowna exit on the highway. hehe

Oh heh, thats awesome @coruscate ! hope your grandmas birthday was awesome ! Only once a post of mine on palnet made 0.23 cents, lol the rest are all under 0.13 cents and my post today so far has only got 0.02 cents , im thinking none of my followers have PAL Or are even on at all ! I thought I would get more upvotes because people you would think want to upvote and curate more on Palnet! its even slow on Steemit unless I pay a bot for upvotes , not fun at all for me these days! 👍👍👍❤

Sadly, the voting slider is exactly the same as on Steemit I think. I got used to the much larger one on SteemPeak.

See the comment above from @asgarth that Steem Peak will have an integration with PAL soon. Pretty exciting!

Totally! It's great to see Steemians taking things into their own hands and making the product they want - even when Steemit Inc. isn't providing the tools to do so.

There are a number of things that keep me coming back to Palnet instead of steam at the moment.

  • Overall community is much nicer, respectful and helpful

  • Rewards from both platforms so why not make my upvotes from here and reward others with pal as well. The 50/50 split here makes total sense

  • New users, welcoming environment for them and a great way to make new connections that could blossom into future businesses, creative ideas and so much more.

Such a great point about a nicer and more respectful community! When the basis of the entire platform is "Peace, Abundance and Liberty" and their secondary logo means "do no harm, take no shit"... it really sets the tone for the culture there. Also... I bet a lot of the trolling type haven't discovered it yet... haha

And you are spot on about being able to make new connections on PAL! Even though we are all on Steem as well - it's nice to be in a closer knit feeling group on PAL. :)

Great review! Hopefully helping to spread the word about PAL....I honestly feel full of superlative branding re: PAL ..... ie “by curators for curators and what not”. I wasn’t around for the early days of steemit, but I’ve had more meaningful interactions with folks on palnet.io in two weeks than I’ve had in a year and a half on steemit. Bought in pretty hard....stoked that my curation might actually....matter? :)

You are spot on! It's been pretty cool to see how close knit and supportive the PAL community feels. It's awesome to see a new "waive of whales" as well. The curation feels so much different and I think it's a much friendlier place for newbs because the chance of them getting noticed is much higher. Because the team members got a nice stake from the beginning - there are a lot more manual curators out there.

Exciting times!

the logo was meant to say Do no harm, but take no shit... But, since they didn't ask any of us latinos, it actually says.

Do no harm, but take no manure... which i guess it works too...

Happy to see you still keeping the positive energy flowing Coruscate... it really brings a smile to my face.

I am reading this post on Palnet and I love it. For some people, this is the first time that they actually make some interesting income via Steem. The distribution is so different from Steem, that it benefits a lot of different people, focused on communities. I wonder where this is going but the so far this is an amazing experiment!

I completely agree!! It really feels like a better place to find community and for newbs to get noticed. I love that there seems to be a lot more manual curation because of the way they setup distribution.

Will be super fun to see how they grow!

Dear @coruscate

Great read. I only created my account on PALnet just a moment ago and I'm currently researching about this platform.

I'm just wondering if there is anything special about this particular front-end? We've busy.org, steempeak.com, sportshub.io and probably many more. Is there any particular reason to focus our attention on Palnet? Any idea?

I've also noticed that if I upvote something on Steemit then it's also upvoted right away on PALnet (and vice-versa). Interesting concept. The only thing is that all I can see is growing supply and I don't see much created demand for that PALnet coin. So selling pressure will most likely only increase. But I may be wrong.

Thx for sharing your experience with us.

Yours
Piotr
