Onboarding is so difficult, we need to fix it...

avatar

Hello everyone,

Yesterday, I tried to onboard one twitter user. First of all I thought about using Steemit Signup, but that was too slow. I tried using one of my INVite vouchers from Steem.Ninja, but they've all been invalidated (due to them closing it down) which put a massive spanner in the works.

I tried having them generate their keys and sending me publics, but of course that is too complicated for pretty much everyone. In the end I had to generate (and know) the password and send it over the insecure medium of twitter DMs. This is no fault of the person, and shows how truly flawed our signup system is. Hopefully better solutions will appear for more sites as I know TravelFeed has easylogin, but it's not globally available across STEEM.

Anyway, Onwards and upwards,
~ @cadawg

A bonus $trendotoken tip and !trendovoter from ONECENT!
Also consider MAPR fund and MAXUV vote bonds too.

You need more DERANGED (5 DERANGED is needed to send 1 DERANGED a day)

Probably we need to wait for RC pools where new users can create new accounts with RC delegated. Then the cost of creating new account should be much lower as no SP delegation will be required for the new account to interact with the blockchain.

Alternatively we could create website for creating new accounts with SP delegation (like 10 SP) but then you need a system to track the created accounts and automatically undelegate to spammers / voting circles.

Yeah. I kinda want a trustless way to do it, and I've now remembered that SteemInvite exists, but even that gives out the 5 passwords (and for someone without a password manager that's pretty hard to keep track of)

I think maybe the main problem is our passwords, maybe we do need to "re-"centralise it to decentralise for the masses in a way?...

Pity Steem.Ninja went. Any idea why it closed down?

Steem.Ninja still exists, just the invite product has dissapeared (moved and vouchers invalidated due to issues)

Shame, that was a useful facility.

Yes, that is not so easy..

I create an account for new users by using my own RC.
Than I hand him over the PDF with all his details and tell them how to change

and here a !BEER for you

Oh crap! That's been the issue since ever. It's 2020, I hope someone actually tries to fix it once and for all.

THE ISSUE, yup it certainly is. We need to fix this across all sites too as TravelFeed have already solved it but if you try and use another site you get bombarded with keys again...

Next time, if the new user is interested in travel, point them to TravelFeed.io. Thanks to EasySignUp, only an email and a password are required to sign up for a new Steem account, and then they can use TravelFeed without a posting key thanks to EasyLogin.

They were interested in SteemPeak and dTube above others, so I don't know how this solves it?

They can sign up for a Steem account easily and use that on other platforms like sp and dtube as well of course

Yeah, but that re-introduces the problem of Keys!

This is the reason Steem will never reach the masses. It’s not userfriendly.

hey d0zer I was wondering how your crypto portfolio is going? Have you at least broke even? Thanks!

I’m not sure if l broke even. But I still have not sold a thing. I just dont look at it anymore. Too depressing. :p

Since the beginning of 2018 I also began buying Ethereum again. Every month. My target was 32 ETH and I just reached it. So now I’m just gonna sit back and see what happens. :)

I assume you will start staking the ETHs to earn a passive income? I given up on the crypto to riches idea. I just think of earning as much crypto as I can to do the things I love. Gaming and social media....

Indeed, staking is the objective. I still think crypto can get you a lot of money (rich probably not) but you have to be lucky. We will see in a few years which coins will be worth something. :)

Hi @cadawg

A suggestion.
He could send that Keys using Telegam establishing a private and encrypted communication.
Well it's just a suggestion.

I would like to know your valuable opinion in the following publication: 3 WAYS OF JOINING OUR EFFORTS + PROJECT "HOPE" ECONOMY EXPLAINED

Greeting.

One thing, I'd still know the password, which defeats the purpose =(

Thanks for the suggestion though!
