The topic I want to talk about today is "Power"

- WHAT IS POWER?
How about asking certain group of people to run 15kilometers and anybody who fails to do so will be punished to run another 25kilometers multiply by 2.That is power, take note such certain group of people will want to obey the person who gave order because of the sanction thereafter if anyone fails to obey.
"Power" is the ability to control the actions of others through the means of sanction or punishment.
You know some people might not willingly want to do the task but because of the power the person who gave the order is exercising and the punishment there after people will want to obey.Meanwhile, its not all the people given the task who are willing to do it but some will because of the sanction or punishment attached to the task. Understood?
2.FORMS OF POWER.
Next up is we move on forms of power. What are the forms of power we are gonna be talking about?
a. Political power
b. Economic power
c. Military power.
a.Political power is a forms power exercise by government in smooth running the affair of the state of country. People in the realm of power are elected by the citizen of that country. People elected them directly given them the power to rule over them.
b.Economic power this can be related to when a person or a country use its economic process at their disposal to control the affair of other persons or countries.For example country like China can make a kind of proposal to country like Nigeria in need of help, which maybe Nigeria rejected, China can use it economic impact on Nigeria to place sanction on us. By this means, China is using it economic power to control the economic affair of Nigeria.
c. Military Power :According to a Chinese leader Mao Tse Tung he is said Power emanates from the barrel of gun this form of power is exercise by the military men or describe as men in khaki here in Nigeria. They are not elected and they always do things by force.
All these afformentioned forms are means by which power can be exercised.Understood?
3.SOURCES OF POWER
At this stage, we will discuss about how these powers are being acquired. Means by which people used to gain the power, means they use to get hold of the power.
a. The constitution
b. Through inheritance
c. Through Coercion
d. Through Charismatic means
a. Through Constitution :This is common to people who hold political offices like the governors, president, chairmen, senators,honorables etc these ooeole acquire power by means of what is stated in the constitution i.e Election
b. Through inheritance :people who acquire through this means are rarely election they in one way or the other chosen simply because they belong to a royal families. Like the Queen of England, Ova of Benin, Alafin Oyo and the likes.
c. Through Coercion:these people acquire power by means of force or coup d'etat. They are not usually elected. Its either they overthrown a government or something.
c. Through charismatic means:Do you agree with me that some people acquire power because of their exceptional character? They get hold of power through the means of because their ways are good and cleans, so by this means people honor and obey them when they talk in the society. Someone like Fidel Castro of Cuba.
