The Nightmare (2)

You may want to read the first part of this story, otherwise this post won`t make much sense to you.

The nightmare and the unexpected arrival of her partner prevented her from going back to sleep. She left the bed and went to the kitchen to grab a cup of coffee. While the coffee was brewing, her eyes were squinting the horizon. There was already light outside. She poured herself a cup of coffee, added some milk, then stepped out on the balcony.

The sun was not up yet. The fresh crisp air made her wish for a long robe. She considered getting back inside and putting on a pair of pants, or at least a long sleeve sweater, but her thought was interrupted by some squealing noise coming from downstairs.

When she looked down, she saw a family of raccoons crossing from one yard to another, graciously walking on the top of the fence, passing through the top of the bushes, brushing themselves against the foliage of the trees. One big mamma raccoon, followed by seven adorable raccoons.” The seven dwarfs”, she thought while looking at them. The last one, was considerably smaller than his siblings and he seemed to lack their confidence. His steps were slower, indecisive and he wobbled all the way to the shed, where his mother and brothers had decided to go down. It took him a while to figure out a way to get off the fence and reach the top of the shed. Seeing the little raccoon struggling to reach the shed, told her that he won't make it till spring.

She sipped on her coffee and enjoyed being outside, listening to the birds chirping and witnessing nature waking up. Margaret always loved the early mornings. Those peaceful moments when she was able to be herself, alone with her thoughts, without interruptions were priceless.

She liked them because that is when she was laying out her plan for the day and had the chance to meditate. That's when she was performing her inner ritual and accessing the Balance. Each moment spent within the Balance had an incredible effect on her life and others`.

Each time she was opening her mind and connected to the Balance`s Ax, her powers grew stronger. It took her a while to master her power and to fully understand how to use them wisely without unbalancing the circle, without creating any ripples.

Living between two worlds, balancing good and evil was not something she had asked for. It just happened. She could not explain why or how. It had always been inside her, but it was not accessible to her until that very moment when she became aware of the forces around her.

She had her Archangel to thank to for this discovery. He was the one that lifted the veal upon her eyes and showed her the path to the light. What she could do was to use her gift to protect others. It was not an easy task.

At first, she did not know that each visit to the Ax would make her stronger, but will also deprive her from freedom. More she helped, the worse she suffered. Physically and mentally. At one point, her whole body felt plagued by fatigue and numbness. She fought hard to get back on her feet, but it only happened when she gave up the fight. That's when she first met the Archangel.

Each time this memory would surface in her mind, her facial expression will instantly turn into a sad smile. A smile you can find on a widow`s face while talking about her loss and grief, about her life before the tragic event. A reminder of a lost life, of precious moments that she did not know their true value until her better half was gone. A reminiscence of their love that transcended time.

Wow, I'm liking where this story is heading.

Of course I missed the first, I was on vacation (if you can be when retired. Vacation from what?), but I won't miss the next.

[waits more or less patiently for the next installment]

Thank you!

I'm liking where this is going! Sort of reminds of what a sin-eater might be going through.
