Winds that sunk a thousand ships!

Mountains clothed in clouds. Come see the beauty of storm winds in the Cape!

Welcome to the skies of the Cape of Storms in South Africa. Named the Cape of Storms due to claiming the lives of many sea farers throughout history. A treacherous coastline with fierce winds from all directions made sailing around the Cape point a very dangerous experience. The coasts of Southern Africa are littered with the skeletons of ships that could not complete their journeys. Inland though, it is the same wind that can wreak havoc in settlements by ripping roofs off and pulling complete trees, roots and all out of the ground.
Today I will show you the beautiful side of these stormy winds.

IMG_4184.JPG

The blanket of cloud on the mountain, in the first picture, is ripped straight up by the wind from a different direction.

IMG_4203.JPG

A cauldron of cloud envelops the mountain peaks in a lovely show of swirling clouds!

IMG_4232.JPG

Only the crows dare fly in the racing winds, as all other birds scurry for safety!

IMG_4234.JPG

Look how high these Pied Crows fly into the eye of the winds!

IMG_4260.JPG

And this is the last picture that I took toward the East of the park where we were standing!

IMG_4274.JPG

This is the view towards the West, and you can see the difference as everything looks calm!
Imagine what this must have looked like to a ship's Captain not knowing that the storm winds are less than a mile away, and will soon flow in to destroy his ship.

Here we are back at home, in the late afternoon...and look at this stunning picture! Wind, cloud and sun creating arty masterpieces in the sky!

IMG_4382.JPG

A crow flying across the showpiece on his way home!

IMG_4411.JPG

Here is a big man-made crow flying through the winds!

IMG_4479.JPG

These guys usually fly in a V-shape - Sacred Ibis', but today you can see how the wind gathers them into a bunch!

IMG_4470.JPG

I was waiting for this, as I knew that the late sunset would be a magnificent show!

IMG_4493.JPG

Finally, just another show of beauty to end the post!

Mother Nature is beautiful, but also very powerful and since time began we, as mankind, have been trying our utmost to tame her powers, and to destroy her. In the process, seeking to destroy ourselves.
Every day some form of nature abuse is displayed in the media, or in the news and we just cannot seem to get things right. Population explosions, business and manufacturing, oil companies, and a host of others create destruction of epic proportions and for how long can this go on. Some say that we are beyond the boundaries already, and we will soon have to search for another planet to live.

An Indian saying "until the last bird sings" sounds so scary to me, and it needn't be, if only we could all get our act right. We are supposed to be managers of the earth, not destructors of the earth. And this madness has to urgently come to a stop, for our own good - and our children's good. Once we learn that we can never truly own anything, as we are only journeying through this life, we might, just might, come to our senses and start to preserve nature for future generations. But in the meantime, the fight for sanity continues.
Think about it!

Wonderful photography. Sunsets in your area are fantastic. And I totally agree with your last thoughts, we must preserve nature, not destroy it.

Thank you JJ, we love to watch the crows in the strong winds, especially when they play games that looks like tag.
Hopefully the nature posts will wake some people up to the beauty that's out there.

Howling winds cross threading the sky, I believe the Cape had two days straight of this again.

People don't believe you when you tell them the winds of the Cape literally blow you off your feet.

Amazing photographic opportunities with mountains, clouds then sunset Stephen.

All over the news today Lady Joan. Some areas the wind is clocking more than 100 kph!
Headlines scream; "Capetonians defying gravity" hahaha.
One guy stated that the wind is so strong that it is going to blow him into somebody else's relationship Lol
Glad that you like the photos my friend.
Blessings!

Wind down there can get crazy, holding onto street poles hoping they don't get uprooted.

Much damages already Lady Joan and it's not over yet.
At least it has tamed the severe heat for a while.

You made such spectacular shots! I love that poetic image that you give us by relating the clouds with a suit. Good point of final reflection: nature is not our enemy, we must work to preserve it and not to tame it like a wild animal.
Greetings @papilloncharity!

Thank-you for sharing the beauty of nature even in her windy storms! - Love the sunset pictures!
I had heard that mankind can either learn from mistakes made or if we can not do this then there is harsher methods to get the message through and we will have to go through some tumultuous times!
That's the same as going through life - we can learn the easy way by listening to words of wisdom or go through learning from the school of hard knocks!
I choose the easy way!

Ha, for most of my life I chose the hard way my friend. I cannot blame it on life dealing me a bad hand by having no father, as at some time in life one has to take responsibility for the self.
A sincere heart is what I found to be the answer.
It took me a long time to learn, but I regard the tough times as my training for what I have been doing at Papillon and so be it. No grudges and no baggage.
Glad that you choose the easy and wise way, as it helps a lot with the kids that you are working with.
Blessings!

The thing is that you learned, never dragged along a bunch of luggage or held on to grudges! Having a sincere heart will definitely take you a long way!
Funny how all those lessons bring us to as you say "your calling"! I'm so glad you were bought to Papillon, wonderful work that you do!

Free experiences in life to shape us my friend. Dragging us screaming and moaning along the way until we accept the lessons for what they are.
Each of us has certain talents within and sadly so many never discover them, mainly because that have the wrong focusses.
The world teaches to run after the money gods and the truth teaches to follow the heart. A big difference methinks.
Blessings!

Greetings Sir @janton, thank you and glad that you liked the post.
The saying is that it's never too late, but in this case I think that mankind is seriously going to burn its fingers!
