A new world record in origami artwork will be launched soon!

Cape Town artist Jooj plans to smash a Guinness World Record for the largest display of origami butterflies this December.
More than 30,000 individually folded hanging butterflies will be on display at his "Merlin Wall Showcase" at the Youngblood Arts and Culture Gallery from December 5!
I spoke to his manager today and told him that I would like to raise awareness about this attempt and this post is the result!

A work in progress in the artist's studio!

IMG-20191122-WA0006.jpg

I call this one the Butterfly Lady!

Origami butterflies forming a man's face!

IMG-20191122-WA0008.jpg

Merlin's magic staff releasing some butterfly power (Transformation)!

IMG-20191122-WA0005.jpg

No idea what this is called, but it's beautiful.

IMG-20191122-WA0007.jpg

This could possibly be the Top Hat Brigade?

IMG-20191122-WA0004.jpg

Finally, the Merlin Wall Showcase will be a part of this event announcement!

The latest world record was set in Japan with more than 20,226 butterflies and we are sure that the artist Jooj will break this record.
Jooj spent the past two years creating this origami effort and during a trip to Berlin, the idea started to formulate in his mind.

As fellow South Africans, we wish Jooj only the best in this gigantic effort and hope that he will indeed set a new world record.
Jooj's website is under construction and I was told that it should be up and running in the next 2 days.
In the meantime if anyone wants to send him best wishes, you can follow him on Instagram; jooj_paper
Just got word that the website is done, see; https://www.joojart.co.za/

The mind boggles at how much time it must take him to create the butterflies! So kind of you to bring attention to this, @papilloncharity - crossing my fingers for his attempt!

Thank you Lady Traci and you know that you are always welcome here.
Two years folding butterflies every day will certainly drive me nuts.
1 hour would be beyond my capabilities, as I just don't like repetitive actions.
I think that he will surely make it.
Blessings and thank you!

Much appreciated, Sir Stephen! While I find some repetitive actions soothing (like crocheting, on the rare occasions that I do), I agree - that would make me crazy as well. I hope you and Lady Marian have a wonderful weekend! 🤗 🤗

Thank you Lady Traci, I spend every free minute running around with my camera, so I think that might also be considered as repetitive, but at least the pictures change.
Hope your Saturday is also good.

Thank you and I also don't see it as repetitive, as it always offers something new Lady Traci, not the same old same old.

This is beautiful but I think he never wants to fold another butterfly - he can most probably do it in his sleep

Hahaha, oh yeah, after a feat like this I would also abstain from folding anything again, but people are people and maybe it stimulates him my friend.

Hahaha, I must be honest here Sir @janton and tell you that the man's endurance astonishes me! Two years of this and they will put me into a mental home for those that are totally insane. I would only be able to whisper one word every day as my life fades away over time.
You don't need to guess what that one word would be, "Butterflies, butterflies, butterflies,.........................................

Making those butterflies looks like a very tedious and repetitive task, which even the thought of gives me the jitters. It almost drives me nuts just tearing up bread for feeding the crows every morning - I can't take much in the way of repetitive moves of hands and fingers. LOL

The artist is very creative with them, but he could theoretically create the art without having to personally make the butterflies, and it would still be his art, since the folding process makes origami butterflies identical, sort of like an assembly line.

That's what I would do! :)

Well, I think he wanted personal satisfaction to reach a goal my friend.
It speaks of patience and endurance.
I am also one that doesn't like repetitive actions, but there are many that loves it!

I don't mind repetitive actions generally, just when my hands and fingers have to do the same exact thing over and over. By the time I've pulled apart all the bread pieces for the birds each morning, I've had about all I can take until the next day, lol.

Blessing to you and yours!

Hahaha, that's exactly what I am talking about!
Imagine pulling the bread apart for the whole day over 2 years!
Never in my life can I even imagine doing this even for one hour every day Lol
Blessings!

I don't have to imagine it - I've been doing it for about 4 or 5 years now, every morning LOL!

It hasn't always been at the volume I'm tearing it apart now though. Right now there are about 50 crows that fly down and gobble all the food up, along with the neighborhood jays, woodpeckers, redwing blackbirds and grackles, and of course the squirrels. The thing is the bread pieces are a small part of what I give them, but it's still a lot to do every day.

I enjoy the mornings with them too much though to stop.

This is the thing, as long as you enjoy it.
You might have noticed that we do the same every day, just not for an hour.
Maybe about 20 minutes in the morning to place the food out and 20 in the late afternoon. At time fights occur between the crows and the geese, or the squirrels and a cat then I am out there in a flash, but most times it's peaceful and I keep an eye out of my window.
Of course we also have many interactions with them as seen in my photos.
You are right as it's just a way of life!
Blessings!
