GIRL PORTRAIT. Digital painting. Head Challenge #5. Illustration by Alejandra Her
Girl portrait. Head Challenge #5
I keep on practicing heads and characters with digital painting. This time I wanted to try some wet brushes in adobe photoshop, and tried something new besides digital watercolors.
I first draw my sketch lines and general lines, including face shape, eyes, nose and lips. I also wanted to show the shape of the upper side of the body.
I use these rough lines just as a reference of the placing of the parts of the face.
I paint the colors without much detail, taking into account the lighter and darker parts of the face.
With the mixing brush, I mix the colors, so they can have soft transitions between one and other. I conserve the face lines, so I can paint in another layer and then just hide it.
I hid the layer with the lines of the face, and I conserved the layer of the outlines and the painting.
To finish, I colored the hair with two effects: Multiply and screen. In the background, I added some gradient colors with gray and blue.
I hope you enjoy my process. I really like comic style. Digital Painting had allow me to get closer to the professional details I want to achieve.

Thank you. I think blue hair has some charm.
Beautiful highlights on the face and blue hair! Hiding the layer with the lines is a good tip I can follow too.
:)

I loved the fourth image as much as the finished portrait. She looks lovely in white hair and eyes. I would fall for her anyday.
